update Calagator::Event 1250468966 Dynamics of Status, Rank, Power, Esteem: A workshop exploring collaboration and leadership Roll back

description Hello!! We're thrilled to announce a groundbreaking new training in status and leadership coming to Portland! Come for a 1-day intro to this work, or stay for both days and explore how the model translates to cooperative team work. Everyone experiences the politics of power and status. But in our everyday lives, we’re often unaware of the underlying forces at play. In this workshop, facilitators Simo Routarinne and Barbara Tint introduce four key elements for understanding power dynamics in interpersonal and intergroup relations. These four elements operate simultaneously, persistently and often unconsciously in our daily interactions. Using experiential methods, participants will work together to learn about these processes, and will be coached on how to navigate them more effectively. This workshop is designed to provide participants with the opportunity to explore the application of these concepts to a wide range of social and organizational arenas. Day 1: Interactive Dynamics of Power, Status, Rank and Esteem Goals for Day 1 include: • Develop more insight and choice about the gap between your intentions and their impact • Identify the difference and connection between intentional and unintentional influence • Recognize different forms of power and how they impact social and organizational dynamics - including visible and invisible forms of power • Learn about your natural status patterns and your default comfort zones, and increase your range of choice and flexibility in these processes • Build awareness, authenticity and empathy in communication; explore how you and others show up in social and organizational dynamics • Maximize your own sense of personal agency and efficacy in making constructive change • Understand these processes as they relate to social constructs such as gender, culture and class Training will include theory, interactive role plays and group activities, experiential methods such as improvisational activities, experimentation with status choices, and exploration of power differentials. Debrief and reflection deepen the awareness and application of these concepts, and provide greater context for understanding one’s experiences in social and organizational settings. Day 2: Navigating Interactive Power Dynamics in Fluid Organizational Hierarchies Do you regularly collaborate with others? Are you a consultant or project lead? Do you work in an environment where the organizational boundaries are blurred? Navigating Power Dynamics will give you insights and strategies to be a more effective facilitator and leader, regardless of your organizational position. Using similar methods as in Day 1, experiential exercises will draw from scenarios related to participants’ own contexts. Debriefs will refocus on more practical and professional applications of the model. Going deeper into the work, Simo and Barbara will show you how to put the framework into action in your workplace for increased collaboration, creativity and productivity. Goals for Day 2 include: • Integrate and mobilize differing forms of individual and team power for more effective multidisciplinary, agile teams across organizational silos • Learn how to cultivate organic and fluid leadership and greater collaboration in the absence of rank and role • Understand how information flow in organizations is affected with status behavior and use of power • Leverage interventions to increase productivity within flat or fluid organizational structures • Improve individual and group performance in complex, volatile and chaotic environments We look forward to working and learning and playing with you. Although status work is profound, our process is playful, entertaining and fun. We believe that learning happens best when participants are relaxed, present, and engaged. Be prepared for laughter and delight. We’re thrilled to announce a groundbreaking new training in status and leadership coming to Portland!
