description This event follows up a December 2012 ARTS (Applied Research & Technology Series) meeting held on the topic of "Introduction to MIDI sequencing and drum machines". The topic of this meeting is MIDI also but the material presented will be more technical as compared to the more general material presented at the December meeting. At the December meeting, MIDI-based applications and concepts such as controlled drum synthesis, sequencing, and sampling were introduced. At this January meeting, an experienced MIDI instrument design engineer will cover topics such as MIDI protocol design and development history, technical operation, master/slave relationships. The presenter, Tom Moxon will also share personal design and development experience creating commercial MIDI instrument products. Attendees are encouraged to bring their favorite electronically synthesized music tracks and participate in shared listening experiences before and after the main speaker's presentation.
