update Calagator::Event 1250461477 EsoZone Portland 2011: 5th Annual Mutant Unconference Roll back

description Portland's annual free mutant unconference EsoZone is back for its fifth year. The event will take place from 7pm until midnight on Friday November 18th and from 1pm until midnight on November 19th. In addition to the unconference format, which allows participants to schedule their own sessions the day of the event, there will be pre-scheduled presentations, workshops, performances and activities. For example, Tom Henderson, author of the forthcoming book Punk Mathematics will deliver a keynote presentation November 18th. The talk is tentatively titled “Time, Space, and the Self are Illusions – So Do ‘You’ Wanna Go ‘Out’ with ‘Me’ ‘Tonight’?” He’ll cover: * Mining your history for strategy * Virtual paranoia * Your eigenself and “you” * Using the howling void beyond your epsilon of consciousness for a good time Also on Friday night: "Digital Hipsterism: Anti-intellectual Movements in Social Media," presented by Beyond Growth's Eric Schiller. Saturday's workshops and activities will include: * Occupy the Astral Plane (1:15pm) * Grant Writing for Artists and Other Alien Beings (3:30 PM) * Anarcho-Sewing: Making Clothes Without a Sewing Machine (4:15 PM) * Yoga (Time TBD) The fifth annual <a href="http://esozone.com/">EsoZone Portland</a> event will be held this weekend at <a href="http://www.pearmentor.org/">p:ear</a>, Friday evening November 18th and Saturday November 19th (see the website for schedule and location information). EsoZone is festival celebrating alternative culture and thought. It follows a hybrid unconference/conference model, meaning that in addition to pre-programmed content, participants can propose their own sessions to share their own ideas, projects and skills with the group.
