<p>A theme has emerged from recent offers to present, namely, ways to avoid the use of panels. To round it out, I'm hoping one or two of the folks who use Panels will volunteer to do the Modules 101 introduction (what kind of problems does Panels solve and what are the gotchas associated for complete beginners) as well as a more hands-on example of how to use Panels.</p>
<h2>Tentative Agenda</h2>

<li><strong>Introductions and Call for Notetaker</strong></li>
<li><strong>Modules 101:</strong> A 5-10 minute overview of a Drupal module for beginners. This month: Panels. (beginner introduction) </li>
<li><strong>Panels:</strong> A more advanced look at how to use panels. (beginner hands-on)</li>
<li><strong>Content Template:</strong> (jnicola) Using node-content_type.tpl.php instead of Panels. (beginner / intermediate)</li>
<li><strong>Node Reference & Co.:</strong> (emptyvoid) Node reference / node relationships / modal dialog API / alternative to panels (advanced)</li>
<li><strong>Announcements:</strong> Items of Interest from User Group members</li>
