Join us Wednesday, December 11th at Bumped for our 5th Annual Celebration + Awards Ceremony!
2019 has been another big year for the PDXWIT and we are thrilled to come together at bumped, for the FIFTH year, to celebrate the holidays and what we’ve accomplished. The theme of the event will be Celebrating our Community. In honor of our theme, Celebrating Community, our conversation starter for the night will be “How do you celebrate your community?”
We will also be hosting our annual Awards Program. Stay tuned for details on how to nominate and vote for Best Contributor and Best Speaker!
While the event is primarily intended for networking, we will have a short program to hear from our sponsors and introduce and announce awards.
During the event, we’ll have more to do than free-form networking:
An activity table where people can get creative. This is a fantastic way to meet others if large groups are not your thing. If you have trouble finding it, look for Meg Aul, our Event Activities Director.
Table topics to help break the ice.
A section for job seekers and those hiring to ensure people get connected.
A #GiveGuide table with raffle prizes and other goodies for folks who decide to support PDXWIT that evening.
Agenda:
5:30 p.m. - Doors open / networking
6:30 p.m. - Introductions and Awards
7:30 p.m. - Additional networking and celebration of our community
8:00 p.m. - Event ends

SaturdayOct 26 2019WWCode Portland: Kubernetes Workshop–
BumpedAn Eventbrite ticket is required to participate in this workshop
Women Who Code Portland is holding a Kubernetes workshop!
Kubernetes has the reputation of being a complex system with a steep learning curve. We will see that it is, indeed, a complex system, but that it is possible to tame its most essential features in just a few hours. In this hands-on workshop, we will learn about Kubernetes and its key concepts, both in theory (we will become familiar with all the things evoked in the previous paragraph) and in practice (we will know how to use them to deploy and scale our applications).
This workshop is for developers, system administrators, and architects alike: anyone who needs to interact with a Kubernetes cluster, or who wants to understand practical Kubernetes concepts in order to design scalable applications.
This is what we will do:
- See what a containerized application looks like
- Learn about Kubernetes concepts, architecture, and network model
- Interact with a Kubernetes cluster with the kubectl CLI
- Create deployments, pods, services, daemon sets, and more
- Implement high availability and load balancing for our services
- Export and import YAML description of Kubernetes resources
- Deploy new releases of our application without downtime
- ... and some more!
EVENT COST:
The event cost is $12 for participants and includes lunch. Scholarships: If you are a student, under-employed, or in need of financial assistance, we have full scholarships available for this event. Please submit an application here (https://forms.gle/EFjfHWHgBayNihaU8). There will be no refunds for this event. If you cannot attend, you can email us to transfer the ticket to another attendee, or we can add it to our scholarship pool.
