TuesdayAug 21 2018PDX Women in Tech (PDXWIT) August Happy Hour
Registration through Eventbrite [https://www.eventbrite.com/e/pdx-women-in-tech-pdxwit-august-happy-hour-tickets-47928719089] is required to gain entry to this event
Join us for Happy Hour at Marmoset on August 21st.
Transitioning into the tech industry can be scary, intimidating and for some, insurmountable. Since those of us who have been around for a while may have forgotten the struggle, this month we are asking ourselves how we can make space for those who are new. If you are new, we’d love to hear from you how others can help.
While the event is primarily intended for networking, we will have a short segment at 5:30 to share important announcements and showcase three women in our community.
An employee of Marmoset will provide an introduction to the company and share open job opportunities.
Lynn Krogseng, experienced Full Stack Developer, will tell us about returning to tech after a long absence.
Kimberly Embry, Sales Development Rep at Jama, will talk about pivoting into the tech field.
During the event, we’ll have more to do than free-form networking:
An Activity Table where people can get creative. This is a fantastic way to meet others if large groups are not your thing. If you have trouble finding it, look for Meg Aul, our Event Activities Director.
Table Topics to help break the ice.
A section for job seekers and our sponsors who are hiring, to ensure people get connected.
Agenda:
4:30 p.m. - Doors open/Networking
5:30 p.m. - Introductions, Announcements + Lightning Speakers
6:30 p.m. - Event ends
Event FAQ:
Q: Will there be gender neutral restrooms? A: They are gender neutral
Q: Is the space ADA accessible? A: Mostly, please let me know if you need the garage doors open for this event upon arrival. Provides easier entry
Q: Will there be food and drink at this event? A: We are planning to provide light food. I believe you are bringing the beer? University of Portland is sponsoring and bringing the beverages!
Q: What is the parking situation? A: We have a small lot behind the building, people are welcome to try there, otherwise there should be ample street parking at that time.
Q: Is there any special information that might help me find the entrance? A: You may choose from the patio entry or the door on Lincoln for folks to come in. If it's nice, you'll probably want to use the patio.
Q: Is there secured bike parking? A: No
Q: Should I consider using public transportation? A: Either
Q: Can I bring my dog? A: No, we ask that you leave your furry friend home. Please note there may be office pets present at this event.
Purpose:
PDXWIT is a community-based non-profit organization. Our purpose is to strengthen the Portland women in tech community by offering educational programs, partnerships, mentorships, resources and opportunities. We are unifying a supportive environment for current and potential women in tech, all of whom are committed to helping each other. Our goal is to bring together and empower women in tech and to encourage others to pursue tech careers. This is our step towards reducing the gender imbalance in the industry and addressing the current negative effects of that imbalance on women.
Our events are inclusive. ALL people who support our purpose are welcome.

FridaySep 15 2017Marmoset Tour & Demo - Putting Music to Picture
Take a peek behind the curtain of a magical art form -- pairing music with picture for film, tv and advertising. Marmoset Music, a boutique music licensing company, opens its doors for a tour of its headquarters. After the tour, they will host a 30 minute demo/discussion focused on how to pair music with picture. There are limited spots available (but, they’re FREE), so if interested, it’s highly recommended to reserve your spot now.
BTW, this event is part of PDX Maker Week. More events can be found at pdxmakerweek.com.
