ThursdayFeb 28 2019Blacks in Tech Presents: Gather + Grow: HR and Recruiting Panel
bit - PDX is thrilled for this next event! We've brought together a diverse panel of movers and shakers in the Portland tech community to help you grow professionally.
Jeselle Headman - EDI Success Manager - Treehouse
Lena Battan - Head of People at Cozy
Tim Butler - Recruiter at New Relic
These professionals will be on hand to help demystify some of the tech hiring needs, as well as standout qualities for POCs in tech. They will explain what recruiters and hiring managers are looking for in both technical and non-technical positions. Additionally, we'll discuss hard skills and the lesser known "soft skills" that a lot of folks in general have a hard time understanding.
Moderator, Lieghti Sharp, will be asking questions about how POCs can put their best foot forward and land that tech job. We want you to participate too! Bring question, business cards, and have your LinkedIn app ready to use. There will be networking with food and drinks after the panel discussion.

TuesdaySep 19 2017PDX Women In Tech Happy Hour Networking Event
***Registration through Eventbrite is required to avoid having to manually check-in at the event***
Join us for happy hour at Airbnb on September 19th.
PDXWIT exists as a way to encourage, support and empower women in the Portland tech community. One way to feel empowered is to get comfortable being brave and bold. This is so important that we’ve made it the theme of this event. The conversation starter “Which country would you move to tomorrow if you knew you had a job there?” will give you a chance to engage in a thought experiment wherein you take a huge personal leap.
While the event is primarily intended for networking, we will have a short segment at 5:30 to share important announcements and showcase three women in our community.
᛫ Introduction to Airbnb, including what they do and what job opportunities are available.
᛫ Deena Anreise, Senior Marketing Manager at Prialto, will tell us how to use your gut to make a major career change.
᛫ Kathy Lee, Software Developer, will talk about why she started speaking publicly and why you should, too.
During the event, we’ll have more to do than free-form networking:
᛫ An Activity Table where people can get creative. This is a fantastic way to meet others if large groups are not your thing. If you have trouble finding it, look for Meg Aul, our Event Activities Director.
᛫ Table Topics to help break the ice. ᛫ A section for job seekers and those hiring, to ensure people get connected.
Event FAQ

Q: Should I consider using public transportation?
A: Yes!
Q: What I can expect at check-in?

PDXWIT is a community-based non-profit organization. Our purpose is to strengthen the Portland women in tech community by offering educational programs, partnerships, mentorships, resources and opportunities. We are unifying a supportive environment for current and potential women in tech, all of whom are committed to helping each other. Our goal is to bring together and empower women in tech and to encourage others to pursue tech careers. This is our step towards reducing the gender imbalance in the industry and addressing the current negative effects of that imbalance on women.
Trans and non-binary people are always welcome at our events.
