Autodesk Oregon Regional Robotics Competition
Website
Description
FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology) seeks to inspire an appreciation of science and technology among young people, ultimately motivating them to pursue opportunities in science, technology and engineering. The FIRST Robotics Competition is an exciting, multinational competition that teams professionals and young people to solve an engineering design problem in an intense and competitive way.
The regional competition is an annual event that challenges high school students to design, build, and program a robot that competes in live action to measure the effectiveness of each robot and the power of team strategy/collaboration. Following a kick-off announcement in January, all teams have only six weeks to brainstorm and build their robots โ robots are designed to compete with one another using the same kit of parts and standard set of rules. Top winners go on to compete in national trials. The competitions are high-tech spectator sporting events, the result of lots of focused brainstorming, real-world teamwork, dedicated mentoring, project timelines, and deadlines.
