The Future of Mushrooms Unconference is taking place on Saturday, September 30th.

This is your opportunity to connect and converse with other members of the Portland community who are mushroom curious.

This is an Unconference, so there won't be any boring speakers onstage. Instead, people break off into discussion groups to talk about the subject matters that resonate most. Topics of discussion at the event will almost certainly include mushroom foraging, at-home cultivation, the business of mushrooms, psilocybin facilitator training, and much, much more.

What: ReVV 2010 is over, and it's time to discuss how to foster new models for change. What do we need to know? What resources and best practice should we be aware of? Let's talk more about social entrepreneurship and social enterprise. How is social enterprise/business different from creating a traditional nonprofit? What benefits and challenges does it offer? How does it tie into impact investing and new legal structures? Speakers and experts will facilitate discussion and learning.

We are delighted to present two regional experts who have rich backgrounds in both research and academia, as well as practical experience in enterprise development:

Kim Alter, Founder, Virtue Ventures and Venturesource, a brand new resource for social entrepreneurs.

Rob Wiltbank, Associate Professor of Strategy and Entrepreneurship, Atkinson Graduate School of Management at Willamette University and venture partner with Montlake Capital. Kim has been teaching at the Said Business School in Oxford for the last few years, has consulted with social ventures in over 40 countries, and is an author and leader in the field. Fresh from the Skoll World Forum on Social Entrepreneurship, Kim will share her experience in social ventures.

Rob presented at a breakout session at ReVV AND conducted a post-conference workshop and was counted as having shared one the seven key ideas identified from the conference. We're thrilled he has agreed to join us to share his research, and the very compelling implications is has for impact investing.

March 10th 2010 Springboard Social Innovation Forum: Hatch: A New Approach to Incubating Community Innovation Who: Springboard Innovation hosts its monthly Social Innovation Forum on Wednesday, March 10th 2010, from 6-9pm. There is limited space for this month’s event, so RSVP is REQUIRED.

What: At the March Springboard Social Innovation we’ll be addressing innovative physical spaces. By creating an active idea laboratory, shared workspace, specifically designed educational programs, appropriate tools, and needed expertise, we can cultivate innovative technology- and service-based solutions to shared problems using newly collaborative, enriched strategies that can be replicated in diverse settings globally.

Together MotiveSpace Coalition and Springboard Innovation are creating HATCH, a physical space that will serve as an active laboratory and incubator for community innovation and will foster an entirely new operating system between individuals, organizations, community, tools, and place. The space will offer classrooms, tools, programs, and experts who will work together to solve local and global problems. Tenants of all sectors will work in close proximity in a shared work space that fosters collaboration, community, and participation to generate social and ecological solutions. Working Artists Network + Software Association of Oregon introduce Equilibrium: The Human Mash Up. In the spirit of disruptive ideas and breaking down barriers we ask, "How can art and technology and the synergy of the two address humanity's next evolutionary step?" Four categories of work will address these questions and collectively speak to the power of human ingenuity. We invite artistic and technological creators to submit their work that addresses human survival in an era of interspecies evolution, revolution, and devolution.

Art and technology are two words that for many represent vastly different worlds, and for generations have largely existed along parallel, yet non-convergent lines. But now the potential for unprecedented collaboration is here. Ever-evolving technologies allow us to share ideas across borders, both geographic and symbolic. Such potential for shared ideas has helped break down long standing silos that for generations inhibited expansive thought and human progression.

The lines are now blurred. Creators of all sorts now have public space to mutually ponder where we've been, where we are, and where we're going. By sharing once segregated perspectives, we can see the world through a different lens and evolve as a species like never before.
