DESCRIPTION:Cascading is an open source workflow abstraction atop Hadoop
and other Big Data frameworks\, with a 5+ year history of large-scale En
terprise deployments. For example\, half of Twitter's total compute uses
this API\, along with other large use cases at eBay\, Etsy\, Airbnb\, L
 inkedIn\, Apple\, Climate\, Nokia\, Factual\, Telefonica\, etc. Cascadin
g leverages some aspects of functional programming so that developers ca
n create large-scale data pipelines which are robust and easier to opera
tionalize. There are popular DSLs in Scala (Scalding) and Clojure (Casca
log)\, plus Jython\, JRuby\, etc. Recent support also implements DSLs fo
r ANSI SQL (Lingual) and PMML (Pattern).&#13\;\n &#13\;\nThis talk will
describe the technology and some of the large use cases for Cascading\,
plus show sample apps in Scalding\, Cascalog\, and go into examples of
ANSI SQL with Lingual and PMML with Pattern. We'll also cover material a
bout Mesos\, a cluster scheduler akin to Google's &quot\;Borg&quot\; whi
 ch is used at scale by Twitter\, Airbnb\, Box\, etc.&#13\;\n &#13\;\nDoo
rs are open at 6:15\, Talk starts at 7pm. Light snacks\, beverages and
brews will be available and will have a social hour following the talk.
&#13\;\n&#13\;\nPlease RSVP via Eventbrite if you plan to attend: http:/
/pdx-hadoop.eventbrite.com/&#13\;\n&#13\;\nTalk will be led by Paco Nath

DESCRIPTION:Presentations:&#13\;\nBeating Cybercriminals: Preventing Comp
romise in the Face of Advanced Attacks&#13\;\n&#13\;\nCybercriminals com
bine social engineering techniques with ongoing application vulnerabilit
ies to install advanced malware on both customer devices to compromise f
inancial accounts and employee devices to compromise corporate networks.
Advanced malware effectively bypasses authentication technologies and r
eadily evades anti-virus applications. New endpoint solutions have emerg
ed that have some merit\, typically with a narrow focus on a single thre
at vector\, but none have proven effective at stopping dynamic threats\,
and most of these approaches come with a very high operational cost. A
new approach to cybercrime protection and preventing compromise is despe
rately needed.&#13\;\n&#13\;\nThis presentation will provide an overview
of:&#13\;\n· The methods cybercriminals use to successfully in
stall advanced malware on endpoint devices&#13\;\n· The most re
cent fraud cybercrime developments and compromise techniques uncovered b
y Trusteer research&#13\;\n· New approaches available to mitiga
te the increase risk from endpoint devices&#13\;\n· Case studie
s of actual cybercrime prevention results&#13\;\n· Demonstratio
n of preventing different advanced attack scenarios&#13\;\n&#13\;\nPrese
nted by Christopher Beier - Sr. Product Marketing Manager for IBM/Truste
er. Christopher brings impressive security DNA through his almost 20 yea
rs’ experience working for both Symantec\, and McAfee. Christopher has d
eep knowledge and experience in the financial services and online bankin
g security with 5 years as a technical product manager at Fiserv. He is
also a 12 year US Navy veteran where he applied IT administration skills
to the US submarine corp. Christopher presented on advanced malware is
sues at Black Hat USA 2014.&#13\;\n&#13\;\nStaying Ahead of the Malware
Curve&#13\;\nOver the last five years the threat curve for dealing with
advanced attackers and malware has changed significantly. Keeping ahead
of signature updates used to be the battleground\, but the escalating ar
ms race has moved on to staying ahead of whitelisting\, reputational\, a
nd dynamic analysis capabilities—and the people we truly care about keep
ing out of networks are gaining traction once again. Worse still\, these
capabilities are moving down the threat curve at an accelerating pace\,
meaning anyone has the potential to acquire these capabilities. Many in
our ranks have given up on keeping our adversaries out of our ranks and
instead focused on rapid detection. Though no silver bullet exists in o
ur toolbox\, there are new solutions that flip the economics to our favo
r.&#13\;\n&#13\;\nThis presentation will provide an overview of:&#13\;\n
 · The methods cybercriminals use to successfully install advanc
ed malware on endpoint devices&#13\;\n· Insight into the evolut
ion of malware attacks\, focusing on the new techniques in use today&#13
\;\n· Discussion of cutting edge malware delivery platforms&#13
 \;\n·          Demonstration of commodity exploit kits (Blackhole)&#13\;
\n· Discussion around endpoint application isolation techniques
&#13\;\n· Demonstration of commodity exploit prevention leverag
 ing non-persistent desktop browsing&#13\;\n&#13\;\nPresented by Darrin M
ourer - Sr. Solution Architect with Invincea specializing in advanced th
reat prevention\, detection\, and forensics. He has been involved in the
information security space for over 15 years in both information securi
ty officer and vendor roles. He has held various certifications includin
 g CISSP\, CISA\, SANS\, and ITIL. Previous to Invincea\, Darrin spent ov
er 10 years in various sr. level security roles at Symantec.&#13\;\n&#13
 \;\nPanel Discussion – Key Advanced Malware Countermeasures&#13\;\n&#13\
;\nFollowing the two presentations\, ISSA Portland will provide lunch fo
llowed by a moderated panel discussion on key advanced malware counterme
asures and practical implementation concepts. The panel will consist of
