Battle Royal: Text A Lawyer co-founders pitch each-other in competition. You're invited to be a judge!
Oregon Technology Buisiness Center (OTBC)

Come judge the Text A Lawyer Battle Royal! Katia v. Kevin You decide who pitches in June to the crowd of silicon valley investors!

The Text A Lawyer co-founder team is preparing for an investor demo day event in the bay area in early June. We're looking to discern who should handle pitching and who should handle Q&A. We're planning to record things so we can replay all your helpful feedback (internal use only, promise).

We are going to follow the time format precisely: 10 minutes -- introduction

5 minutes -- Katia will pitch

10 minutes -- Katia's Q/A session

5 minutes -- Kevin will pitch

10 minutes -- Kevin's Q/A session

10 minutes -- Katia and Kevin will leave the room for the judges (you) to deliberate. Yes, we'll leave the recording on so we can listen later but we're hoping you can speak freely an honestly. -- We can take some tough love.

10 minutes -- We'll quickly tally the votes and announce who's doing what in at the Batchery.com demo day next month. Share a drink and snack with us - we'll stay around to chat.

TOTAL: 1 hour of your time means the world to us!

To show our appreciation we'll provide BEER/soda/water and chips/candy/hummus/celery type of refreshments and light snacks. Please email [email protected] to confirm (so we know how much food/drinks to purchase).

Thank you, K2 (Kevin and Katia)

Crowdfunding - Money 4 Something
OTBC (Oregon Technology Business Center)

Crowdfunding sites, like Kickstarter.com, have set the entrepreneurial world ablaze with their democratizing effect in the project funding realm. You’ve read about crowdfunding successes like Pebble, Kickstarter's biggest crowdfunding success (the project raised over $10 million). Now find out how you can use these same sites to get YOUR project off the ground or accelerated into the marketplace.

Join us for a special 1-hour presentation to find out more about:

How crowdfunding works

Various platforms available to entrepreneurs to raise funds or even find investors (beyond the more well known sites like Kickstarter and IndieGoGo)

How to create the “perfect pitch” for crowdfunding sites

How crowdfunding campaigns can be used to road test your product offerings and help you build a rabid fan-base

We’ll introduce you to the “Money 4 Something” step-by-step DIY workshop and resource for indie artists, innovators, inventors and entrepreneurs who need outside funding to launch or complete their projects. The information in the workshop is geared toward creative innovators looking for an alternative, community oriented way to get the word out about, and fund, their projects through crowdfunding sites like Kickstarter.com.

We’ll even give you a proprietary tool that you can use to craft your own crowdfunding campaign on your own—just for attending and learning how you can take advantage of these amazing crowdsourced fundraising mechanisms.

If you have any questions before the event, feel free to contact the presenter, Adrienne Fritze at [email protected], or by calling her at 503.349.6075.

OTBC: Speed Dating for Startups
OTBC [Old location, do not use!]

What: Speed dating for startups When: Saturday, Feb. 28, 1pm to 3pm Where: OTBC Cost: Free

At our "Finding Founders" brown bag lunch, there was a lot of interest in a Startup Speed Dating process. So we're doing it! Do you have an idea for a startup and you're looking for founders who can get as excited about your idea as you are? Are you looking for an early stage startup to join - even if the compensation up front is sweat equity instead of salary? Then this event is for you.

Send us your Idea If you have an idea for a startup, we encourage you to give use some hint of what it is (even if you need to be vague) so we can post the info and help you generate some interest. Please use the form at this link and we'll read it, maybe provide some feedback, and get your idea posted online. (If you don't want to reveal anything about the idea online, at least consider talking about what skill sets you'd like to add to the team so readers will know whether or not there might be a fit.)

See concepts others have already posted at this link.

Agenda for Feb. 28 After some networking time, we'll have each idea person looking for a team give 2 or 3 minute elevator pitch, have each of them head to their own corner of the room, and let people circulate around to check out the startups that sound interesting to them.

If we get a lot of ideas, we might have to split this up over more than one event and feature a specific list of startups at each one - we'll see how it goes.

So mark your calendar, RSVP, and start honing your idea. We hope to see you on Feb. 28!

PDMA Learning and Networking Event: Pricing and Pricing War Games
OTBC (Oregon Technology Business Center)

Professionals in any industry work with tools as they set prices for their products or services: operating costs, ramp-up, S-curves, break-evens, ROI goals, and customer value. We understand the concepts and apply them carefully. How, then, do we end up fighting price wars, disappointing customers, and performing below goals?

For a start, consider what’s missing in that list of tools: anything that takes competitive dynamics into account. That’s where war games and simulations come in, and that’s what we’ll see in action on July 26th.

The Oregon Chapter of the Product Development and Management Association (PDMA) invites you to its July Learning and Networking Event. In this highly interactive and thought-provoking program, our experienced speaker will discuss and lead us through pricing decisions, pricing mistakes, and pricing war games. We will participate in simulations that shock, amuse, and enlighten as we ponder how to price effectively.

Acknowledgement

A special thanks to the Oregon Technology Business Center (OTBC) for hosting this event.

Speaker

Mark Chussil, Founder and CEO of Advanced Competitive Strategies.

Mark has conducted hundreds of war games and worked with thousands of strategists in Fortune 500 companies on six continents and helped them make or save billions of dollars. A 35-year veteran in competitive strategy, Mark earned his MBA at Harvard and his BA at Yale.

SmartPitch: Creating an Effective Investor Pitch
Hillsboro Chamber of Commerce

To close funding from investors, you first must accomplish some key milestones. When it's time to pitch investors, you must convey the investment opportunity and what you've accomplished in a compelling way that motivates the investor to want to learn more.

In this OTBC/OEN workshop you'll learn what headway investors expect that you've already made, and what topics they want to learn about in a pitch. And you'll learn about effective pitch techniques, and effective pitch tactics. In the interactive portion of the workshop, you'll develop and delivery the front-end of an investor pitch - one of the hardest pieces: a description of the problem or unmet need, and a description of your solution both of which are concise, compelling and motivating.
