Reinventing WI-FI: Technologies Supporting the Applications & Trends of the Future
Virtual Zoom Webinar

This is a joint event organized by the IEEE Oregon Communication Society and the Portland Chapter of the Society for Information Management (SIM). This event is free and open to the Public Event Banner Abstract: Wi-Fi is an outstanding success story. Although it has been around for decades, it continues to evolve by adding new functionalities, improving performance, and delivering new services. It is difficult to imagine going one day without Wi-Fi. In this talk, we will discuss the latest generation of Wi-Fi technology, namely, Wi-Fi 6. Wi-Fi 6 is a revolution compared to any of the previous Wi-Fi generations because it introduces capabilities that are essential to support a much denser number of devices per access point, best-in-class security, greater capacity, and lower latency. We will cover some performance characteristics of Wi-Fi 6, provide a market update, and conclude with future directions towards Wi-Fi 7.
