&#13\;\nKEYNOTE: Embracing Social Media at the U.S. State Department: If
the Oldest Federal Agency Can\, Why Can’t You?&#13\;\nThe State Departm
ent is the oldest executive agency in the United States. Cold war secrec
y created a need-to-know culture that impeded unofficial information sha
ring. State’s diplomatic corps is selected for risk aversion and trained
to obtain many clearances and authorizations before officially transmit
ting information internally. &#13\;\n&#13\;\nThen the end of the Cold Wa
r was followed by the East Africa embassy bombings and 9/11. The paradig
m shifted. The lack of information sharing and collaboration meant that
puzzle pieces remain scattered and threats were unidentified. In this sh
ift\, the State Department’s office of eDiplomacy was born. &#13\;\n&#1
3\;\nCome find out how State Department has embraced lightweight social
media tools behind the firewall to move from a need-to-know culture to n
 eed-to-share one.&#13\;\n&#13\;\nMeet Richard Boly\, Director of eDiplom
acy\, US Department of State&#13\;\nRichard Boly is a career U.S. diplom
at and currently the Director of the Office of eDiplomacy\, an applied t
echnology think tank for the United States Department of State. Previous
ly\, he was a National Security Affairs Fellow the Hoover Institution at
Stanford University\, where he launched the Global Entrepreneurship Pro
gram. He recently served in U.S. Embassy\, Rome\, where he developed and
ran a program to promote entrepreneurship in Italy. Other embassy assig
nments include the Dominican Republic\, Ecuador\, and Paraguay. Richard
is the most junior diplomat to win the Cobb Award for commercial diploma
cy.&#13\;\n&#13\;\nIn a prior life\, Richard was the first Presidential
Management Fellow with the Inter-American Foundation\, was a consultant
with the Inter-American Development Bank\, and founded and ran a shrimp
hatchery in coastal Ecuador. He is a graduate of Stanford University and

DESCRIPTION:Free Business Training\, Portland&#13\;\n&#13\;\n“Transformin
g Customers into Raving Fans Through Social Media”&#13\;\n&#13\;\nMany s
uccessful companies are using social media to attract and convert leads\
, grow revenue\, reduce marketing costs and even develop new products.&#
13\;\n&#13\;\nIs YOUR business being left behind?&#13\;\n&#13\;\nWhy Do
Some Businesses Have Trouble With Social?&#13\;\n&#13\;\n85% of companie
s have used Social Media and failed to see business results\, while 10%
use it and see their revenue soar. There are 3 primary reasons why busin
esses fail with their Social Media efforts:&#13\;\n&#13\;\n1. The busine
ss has a siloed organizational structure. Social media can often blur th
e lines between customer service\, sales\, marketing and even R&amp\;D.
Be open to change.&#13\;\n&#13\;\n2. The business leaders think social m
edia is nothing more than another marketing tactic. But&#13\;\nthis appr
oach leads to pushy selling and inconsistent messaging and can turn off
more business in the long-term. These new tools require a different mind
set than traditional marketing.&#13\;\n&#13\;\n3. The business leader mi
stakenly assumes that because many of the social channels are free that
they are easy to use and so jump in without a strategy. After this doesn
 ’t work\, they conclude that social simply doesn’t work. The problem\, h
owever\, was with the message\, not the medium.&#13\;\n&#13\;\nPut YOUR
Business in the Winning 10%&#13\;\n&#13\;\nJoin Cinta Media Group for a
free training to help your business thrive in the modern marketplace. Yo
u will walk away with clear actionable steps you can take. There will be
  time for Q&amp\;A at the end.&#13\;\n&#13\;\nWhere &amp\; When&#13\;\n&

DESCRIPTION:“Where should innovation start?”&#13\;\n&#13\;\nThe majority
of business leaders do not recognize the value of IT in innovation.... M
eanwhile\, some companies make use of technology trends\, including big
data\, social\, and mobile. How does data\, development\, and design inf
luence the maturity of tech innovation? How does one area influence the
other two and where do great ideas begin?&#13\;\n&#13\;\nJoin us as we w
alk through a number of innovative case studies of innovation. Some star
ted with data\, moved to development and were later marketed to the mass
es. Others started with development and marketing\, leaving design as an
afterthought. The products are interesting\, and the individual approac
hes are fascinating.&#13\;\n&#13\;\nInnovation in Motion members will be
