Califor nia began the trend by passing the California Consumer Privacy Act\, whi ch became effective as of January 1\, 2020. Since then\, eighteen other states have passed comprehensive privacy legislation\, including Oregon\ , the eleventh state to do so. Oregon's new law\, the Oregon Consumer Pr ivacy Act (OCPA)\, took effect on July 1\, 2024 and gives Oregonians a n ew and powerful set of consumer privacy rights and protections. \;\n& #13\;\nThe OCPA defines personal and biometric data broadly\, protects c onsumer data rights holistically\, and holds companies that have access to our data to high standards.
