DESCRIPTION:Sam Keen will demonstrate how he took the existing Trimet Tra

building a small 'Translation' web service to convert between the Trimet

DESCRIPTION:Rich Internet applications (RIAs) are everywhere. With Web bu
sinesses like Google and Yahoo! and brick and mortar companies like Harl
ey Davidson and Sherwin Williams embracing RIAs for their online presenc
e\, the media buzz is giving way to the reality of a better Internet.&#1
3\;\n&#13\;\nAdobe has recently contributed AMF support to the Zend Fram
ework\, allowing PHP developers to easily build Rich Internet Applicatio
ns using Flex and Adobe AIR that interact with a PHP backend.&#13\;\n&#1
3\;\nRyan Stewart\, a technical evangelist with Adobe\, will give an int
roduction to Adobe Flex and Adobe AIR\, and will walk through how to cre
ate a Flex application powered by PHP and the Zend Framework. Working wi
th Zend Studio for Eclipse\, and Flex Builder (an Eclipse plugin)\, Ryan
will demonstrate how to build\, debug and deploy applications built wit
h Adobe Flex\, and how to have these same applications run on the deskto
p using the Adobe AIR runtime.&#13\;\n&#13\;\nWith this knowledge\, deve
lopers will be able to easily build rich Internet applications that comb
ine data from PHP and rich media like audio and video into a compelling
application.&#13\;\n&#13\;\nRyan’s bio can be found online at http://blo

DESCRIPTION:This will be a (open to the public) BoF session at Open Sourc
e Bridge.&#13\;\n&#13\;\nI'm Very pleased to announce that Haiping\, Sen
ior Server Engineer at facebook and main engineer behind HipHop for PHP
will be meeting with the PDXPHP group on June 3rd.  HipHop is one of the
major developments in the PHP-verse as of late and it's announcement ce
rtainly generated quite a bit of hubbub.  Be sure to come down to learn
all about HipHop and related work\, plus what it's like being an enginee
r at Facebook.&#13\;\nHipHop for PHP isn't technically a compiler itself
. Rather it is a source code transformer. HipHop programmatically tra
nsforms your PHP source code into highly optimized C++ and then uses g+
+ to compile it. HipHop executes the source code in a semantically equ
ivalent manner and sacrifices some rarely used features — such as eval(
) — in exchange for improved performance. HipHop includes a code trans
 former\, a reimplementation of PHP's runtime system\, and a rewrite of
many common PHP Extensions to take advantage of these performance optim
 izations.\n\nTags: pdxphp\n\nImported from: http://calagator.org/events/
