The Oregon Entrepreneurs Network would like to invite you to participate at this year's Internship Workshop and Job Fair event. Internships not only provide excellent work experience, but also allow you to be an integral of an exciting and dynamic business environment. Learn how to maximize the internship experience and meet some of Oregon's hottest startups.

What Students Can Expect at the Workshop and Speed Dating Event:
The workshop will be held in a round table format to generate an environment of healthy discussion between student participants and panelists focused on driving maximum value out of future internships. After the workshops the speed dating event will begin and each student will be able to meet with each company independently for 10 minutes. This will be your chance to make a connection and lay ground work for prospective internship opportunities. Directly following the Job Fair, you will have an additional 30 minutes available to follow up with the companies that best fit your future career aspirations.

Students:
If you are a student that wishes to register for this event, please click on the Member or Non-member links below. If you are a student and unsure about the status of your OEN membership through your university, please contact Kirsten Ringen (kirstenr@oen.org) or Larry Williams (larryw@oen.org) to verify your membership.

The workshop will be held in a roundtable format to generate an environment of healthy discussion between participants and 3-4 expert panelists. Topics include general best practices, tips for employing an intern and the legal consideration of internships. After the workshop, the Job Fair will be held in a speed dating format where each company will be able to meet with students independently for 10 minutes per session.

ELC Technologies is starting up a new paid internship program. If you've dabbled with Rails but haven't quite made it to paid developer status yet this may be just the program for you. Come and talk to us, eat food, and find out why you want to apply for the program.

The Program
The internship will take 3 months and by the end we expect that you will be ready to start work as a junior programmer immediately. This internship is not a requirement for employment at ELC and is no guarantee of employment, but it is a great way to get the fundamentals while getting paid to do so.

The Event
The introduction event will allow you to connect with the instructors and the organizers behind the internship program while eating delicious pizza and consuming beverages. We will go over the format of the program, talk about the requirements needed to enter, and the application process. At the end we will have time for you to talk to coaches and ELC employees about what it's like to work for ELC and what sorts of projects we work on.

Anna Lorimer will present Security Internships: Bringing up the next generation of hackers

Software engineering internships are increasingly popular and are becoming an integral part of career development for newcomers to the tech scene. They’re also valuable to any organization because they give senior engineers the opportunity to pass on knowledge and make it easier to find full time hires down the road. While there’s plenty of information about how to run a software engineering internship, the same can’t be said for security internships. In this talk I’ll discuss how security internships differ from regular software engineering internships, how to find interns, and how to structure internships to set up both your organization and the intern(s) for success.

Bio:

Anna Lorimer is an undergraduate student studying math and computer science at the University of Waterloo in Waterloo, Canada. She’s done 5 internships over the course of her undergraduate career and is currently doing her sixth with New Relic’s Product Security Team in Portland. She is also the co-founder of StarCon, a technology conference focused on the joy of technology and building a community around sharing technical knowledge.
