DESCRIPTION:Virtual Private Networking&#13\;\n&#13\;\nOur illustrious IPv
 6 authority\, Ted Mittelstaedt\, will give a talk on popular Virtual Pri
 vate Network options\, including:&#13\;\n&#13\;\n1) standard IPSec clien
 ts - require static IP at each endpoint\, and are supported out of the b
 ox by Windows\, Cisco IOS\, Mac\, and Unix using raccoon and similar pro
 grams.&#13\;\n&#13\;\n2) Modified IPSec VPN clients - example is the Cis
 co IPSec VPN client. This is a proprietary modification used to allow on
 e end to have a dynamic IP number.&#13\;\n&#13\;\n3) SSL VPN clients. Ci
 sco has one they call AnyConnect that is proprietary. OpenVPN is another
  example.&#13\;\n&#13\;\n4) PPTP. This was supposed to have died years a
 go but since Microsoft ships the PPTP client with Windows it is still ve
 ry useful in situations where the network admin is forced to provide VPN
  services to clients that she has no control over.&#13\;\n&#13\;\n5) L2T
 P. This is what PPTP morphed into\, Microsoft supports it natively\, so
 it has the same benefits (to the network admin) as PPTP plus the Microso
 ft implementation allows for encryption using IPSec with certificates.&#
 13\;\n&#13\;\nTed is the Co-Owner of Portlandia IT and author of the Fre
 eBSD Corporate Networker's Guide&#13\;\n&#13\;\nMany attendees will brea
 k for a social hour at the Lucky Lab Brew Pub NW at 1945 NW Quimby&#13\;
 \n&#13\;\nSee you there!&#13\;\n\n\nTags: beer\, linux\, networking\, pl
