DESCRIPTION:                                 Presentation&#13\;\n
                         What is Open?&#13\;\n
            by&#13\;\n                                 David Mandel&#13\;
 \n&#13\;\n&#13\;\n David Mandel is interested in distilling the core
  ideas &#13\;\n from the philosophy of Open Source Software and exte
 nding&#13\;\n these into other areas like music\, publishing\, farmi
 ng\, &#13\;\n and education. In the past he has given presentations
 &#13\;\n on Open Source Agriculture.&#13\;\n&#13\;\n In this pre
 sentation\, David wants to discuss Open Source&#13\;\n in education.
   This is not a presentation about using &#13\;\n Open Source Softwa
 re in traditional classrooms as much&#13\;\n as it is a discussion a
 bout using Open Source Philosophy&#13\;\n to change traditional clas
 srooms. We will discuss the &#13\;\n work of John Gatto author of &
 quot\;Dumbing Us Down&quot\;\, the Moore &#13\;\n Method of teaching
  mathematics\, and David Mandel's personal &#13\;\n experience teach
 ing mathematics and computer classes in &#13\;\n community colleges.
