DESCRIPTION:Distinguished IEEE Speaker: Zhensheng Zhang of Argon ST (form
 erly SDRC)&#13\;\n&#13\;\nDate: Thursday\, November 4\, 2010&#13\;\nTime
 : 6:00-8:00 PM&#13\;\n&#13\;\n&#13\;\nPlace: Tektronix Conference Center
  (Bldg 38)\, 3025 SW Zworykin Ave\, Beaverton\, OR 97005&#13\;\n&#13\;\n
 Agenda: &#13\;\n6:00 PM – Social&#13\;\n7:00 PM - Speaker&#13\;\n&#13\;\
 nRegister here: http://meetings.vtools.ieee.org/meeting_registration/reg
ister/3373&#13\;\n&#13\;\nIn this talk\, we present a high level overvie
w on the recent development of the cognitive radios/dynamical spectrum a
ccess (DSA) techniques\, focusing on the following areas: characteristi
cs of the available bandwidth of the primary users\, sensing technologie
s and sensing intervals to detect white spaces\, spectrum allocation sch
emes (graph coloring\, game theory\, machine learning)\, tradeoff betwee
n spectrum/performance gain versus additional overhead used in implement
ing DSA. Some of tradeoff studies are presented in terms of price of an
archy\, which is defined as the price that a decentralized system should
pay for not being coordinated. We will also present a brief overview of
the security issues associated with DSA networks\, including communicat
ions\, jamming/attacks and anti-jamming\, standards activities in cognit
ive networks and current projects related to DSA. &#13\;\n&#13\;\nBiogra
phy:&#13\;\n&#13\;\nDr. Zhensheng Zhang received his Ph.D. in electrical
engineering from the University of California\, Los Angeles (UCLA). Dr.
Zhang has over twenty years experience in design and analysis of networ
k architecture\, protocols and control algorithms. He is currently with
 Argon ST (formerly SDRC)\, Principal Scientist\, Networking Research\, s
erving as Principal Investigator for many Department of Defense (DOD)
projects. He worked at Bell Laboratories\, Lucent Technologies\, and Col
umbia University\, focusing on research and development in high speed ne
tworks and wireless networks. Dr. Zhang severed as Editor of IEEE Transa
ction on Wireless Communications from 2002 to 2006 and as Guest Editor f
or the IEEE JSAC special issue on Overlay Networks\, 2003 and the Journa
l of Wireless Networks issue on multimedia wireless networks\, 1996. He
is an IEEE COMSOC distinguished lecturer (2010-2011) and will serve as I
EEE Globecom 2012 Conference Technical Program Committee (TPC) Chair\, t
o be held in Southern California. He has given many invited talks and t
utorials on high speed networks and wireless networks at various confere
 nces and institutes. &#13\;\n&#13\;\n \n\nImported from: http://calagat
