DESCRIPTION:Wed. September 10th\, 6:53pm at FreeGeek -- 1731 SE 10th Ave.
&#13\;\n&#13\;\n Speaker: Jonathan Leto &#13\;\n Topic: Scientific Com
puting with Math::GSL &#13\;\n&#13\;\nThis talk will be an introduction
to doing scientific computing with &#13\;\nPerl and Math::GSL. This mod
ule provides access to functions from the &#13\;\nGNU Scientific Library
via Perl code.&#13\;\n&#13\;\nWhy would you want to do that? Using the
  Perl interpreter's easy and &#13\;\nfast I/O\, string processing\, and
managed memory reduces programming &#13\;\ntime while GSL's optimized nu
merical library (compiled C) gives you &#13\;\naccess to a variety of ma
thematical routines to do the heavy lifting.&#13\;\n&#13\;\n http://www
 .gnu.org/software/gsl/&#13\;\n http://search.cpan.org/dist/Math-GSL/&#1
3\;\n&#13\;\nYou do not need to know Perl or bring a lab coat. You shou
ld bring your &#13\;\nscientist friends (steal their lab coat?) and it h
elps if you know how &#13\;\nto program in some language (FORTRAN anyone
 ?)\, or something about math.&#13\;\n&#13\;\n&#13\;\nAs always\, social
hour at the Lucky Lab after the meeting.\n\nTags: perl\, pdxpm\n\nImport
