DESCRIPTION:A Hack the Dot is a two-hour hackathon where coding school st
 udents\, junior developers\, experienced developers\, marketers\, design
ers and curious web people come together to build ideas around a domain
name. Our events are meant to be a quick and fun way to build a humorous
(and functional) product quickly while meeting people in your tech/star
tup community.&#13\;\n&#13\;\nThere will be pizza. And beer.&#13\;\n&#13
\;\nWhat to Bring / How to Prepare:&#13\;\n• Bring your laptop (fully ch
arged). Bring your charger just in case.&#13\;\n• Install the Atom text
 editor. Go here: https://atom.io/&#13\;\n• Setup a github.com account&#1
3\;\n&#13\;\nHow does it work?&#13\;\nStep 1: Attendees are broken up in
to random teams and assigned spirit animals to guide their efforts.&#13\
;\nStep 2: The teams are provided with the same undisclosed domain name
by Name.com\, arbitrary and often hilarious. &#13\;\nStep 3: Teams have
just two hours to come up with a functioning site inspired by that domai
 n. The team builds the most creative and fun idea for the domain wins.&#
13\;\n&#13\;\nParticipants will be judged on four criteria: (1) function
 ality\, (2) design\, (3) humor\, and (4) creative domain name interpreta
tion.&#13\;\n&#13\;\nWhat do you get at the event? &#13\;\nFOOD! &#13\;\
nSWAG! &#13\;\nFRIENDS!&#13\;\n&#13\;\nHow much does it cost? &#13\;\nIt
’s FREE!&#13\;\n&#13\;\nQuestions? Send them to HacktheDot at name.com.\

DESCRIPTION:Interested in giving a talk or presenting at a conference\, b
ut not sure where to begin? Or maybe you know what you want to do\, but
you're nervous about something (and you're not quite sure what!) Giving
talks and speaking in general can be nervewracking - but it doesn't have
to be!&#13\;\n&#13\;\nJoin us on Feb. 15th for an evening of fun\, func
tionality\, and friendship! We're going to help you get ready to create
an idea\, submit a proposal to a conference CFP\, and prep for your talk
! This workshop is designed to help you prepare for ACT-W (Advancing the
Careers of Technical Women) and the CFP that is due March 1st\, but you
can come even if you aren't interested in submitting a talk to ACT-W. W

urself\, and how to avoid self-doubt.&#13\;\n&#13\;\nWe look forward to
meeting you!&#13\;\n&#13\;\nThis workshop is taught by Laura Davis of Cl

nyone else interested in the Web come together to build ideas. Use your
skills in web development\, storytelling\, and creative ideation to buil

*&#13\;\n&#13\;\nAt a domain-driven hackathon\, all of the teams are giv

DESCRIPTION:Food\, learning\, sharing and encouragement with the fabulous
PHP Community!&#13\;\n&#13\;\nThis month Eric Mann presents Monkeys in
the Machine&#13\;\n&#13\;\nCan a million monkeys given a million typewri
ters produce the collected works of Shakespeare? Considering the ethical
concerns of forcing monkeys to write\, paired with the sheer mess of th
 at many mammals in one location\, we might never know. Or will we?&#13\;
\n&#13\;\nThanks to the wonders of modern computing\, it's possible to _
simulate_ monkeys emulating the Bard. Leveraging techniques like genetic
algorithms\, we can build a system that approximates a monkey armed wit
 h a typewriter. Digitally.&#13\;\n&#13\;\nIt's a fun exercise to prove a
thought experiment\, but also a powerful technical approach to leverage
machine learning and rudimentary AI in various places. Together\, we'll
breed digital monkeys and show both how they can be used to answer the
aforementioned Shakespearean question as well as produce generative resu
lts to more _practical_ problems.\n\nTags: php\, machine learning\n\nImp
