DESCRIPTION:Ricochet Robot! Do AI In C&#13\;\n&#13\;\nAlex Randolph's won
derful game Ricochet Robot (Rasende Roboter) depends on a player's abili
ty to quickly find a path through a large maze. In this talk\, I describ
e the game\, and then describe my solution to the game (the first soluti
on I am aware of): a table that allows instant lookup of the solution to
any given game position. The table is almost 1 TB uncompressed\, and re
 quired around 30 CPU-days to generate.&#13\;\n&#13\;\nThis application i
s a good demonstration of why and how much AI is still done in C. I will
show some techniques for clean yet highly efficient coding\, demonstrat
e some infrastructure building and use\, and discuss tradeoffs between m
emory use\, speed optimization and easily verifiable correctness.&#13\;\

DESCRIPTION:Our first Emacs Hangout will have the following agenda: • Mai
n Talk. Overview of Magit\, a Git Porcelain for Emacs presented by Will
Clifford and Howard Abrams. This will be around 15 minutes\, so it won't
answer all your questions\, but should get you started. • Lightning Tal
ks. Have something to share? Great! Each lightning talk with be around 5
minutes to show off something cool your learned\, so come prepared! We
 don't know how many of these we'll have\, but we're flexible. • Office H
ours. We'll have a white board where you can write down issues you want
to resolve or projects you are working on\, and others will come and wor
k with you to solve them. We may tweak this format in the future\, but t
his is our plan. We'll publish notes about this meeting at our Github re
pository. Couple of notes about this meeting: 1. Enter on SW 2nd.  Arriv
e by Max? Walk around the building. 2. Doors lock at 7\, so people arriv
ing after 7 will need to call the note on the door to let them in.3. We
will finish office hours at 8\, and then continue at a local pub. Note:
Our monthly hangouts will be the third Wednesday of each month...however
\, we may alter this pattern for November and December.\n\nTags: meetup:

t 7pm&#13\;\n### Collaborate on a Surrealist Rails App by Terian Koscik&
#13\;\n&#13\;\nSurrealism is an artistic practice in which mundane but d
issimilar ideas are juxtaposed to create surprising or nonsensical ideas
. This has interesting results when applied to startup culture. In this
workshop\, rather than finding a market niche which can be exploited for
fame\, revenue\, or power\, we will be using our skills as Rails develo
pers to create products with no practical use whatsoever. We will use a
variation of the surrealist game Exquisite Corpse to create collaborativ
e Rails apps\, then present them to one another in a mockery of venture
capitalism.&#13\;\n&#13\;\nAfter presentations we'll have more socializi

DESCRIPTION:In this weeks code challenge we will be building the classic
game of Hangman. &#13\;\n&#13\;\nBuilding this game will consist of a fe
w parts. &#13\;\n- We will need to select a word for the user to guess
at. &#13\;\n- We will need to take user input(guesses) and determine if
the guess is correct. &#13\;\n- We will need to to have a win/lose condi
tion.&#13\;\n&#13\;\nStretch goals: &#13\;\n- Use an API to provide a ra
ndom word &#13\;\n- Turn it into a web app &#13\;\n&#13\;\nIf it's been
a while\, here is a refresher on the rules of hangman: http://www.wikih
ow.com/Play-Hangman&#13\;\n&#13\;\nThis challenge is great for all skill
levels and be completed as simplistically or complexly as you feel comf
ortable with. We will have mentors for Ruby\, Python\, Node\, and JS. Al
l languages are welcome\, what we don't know we can learn together.&#13\
