strategy to decide if SM is the best new way to engage your customers\,
prospects\, channel partners and even your own people\, whether they are
on the other side of the globe or in the next cubical. And if it's the
right time for your business\, we'll show you how to get a fast\, afford

 .&#13\;\n * How to decide if now's the time.&#13\;\n * What does i

   * How to start small\, fast and cheap&#13\;\n * Should you build yo
ur own or join an industry community?&#13\;\n * What are the right to
ols\, platforms and people to get started?&#13\;\n&#13\;\nThe Corvallis
Chapter of the Software Association of Oregon is starting a Special Inte

DESCRIPTION:PROGRAM:&#13\;\n&#13\;\nA New Scale for Nuclear Power&#13\;\n
&#13\;\nThe Corvallis Chapter of the Software Association of Oregon begi
ns 2010 with presentation from NuScale Power\, a local nuclear technolog
y start-up that leveraged technology transferred from Oregon State Unive
rsity to create a revolutionary model for modular nuclear reactors. Kent
Welter\, a Principal Engineer at NuScale\, will give an overview of the
technology and describe how NuScale has shaped the future nuclear energ
y.&#13\;\n&#13\;\nThe world needs clean\, reliable ways to generate elec
tricity. The United States is expected to need 300 gigawatts of new capa
city – that’s 150 times the capacity of Hoover Dam – by 2030. Developing
nations can only grow as fast as they can power their economies. Global
demand for new electric capacity will outpace the U.S. by tenfold in th
e same period.&#13\;\n&#13\;\nElectric companies and government leaders
are looking for ways to ensure their citizens have reliable\, affordable
supplies of electricity. They worry about the volatility of fossil fuel
prices and the effects of green house gases.&#13\;\n&#13\;\nNuScale Pow
er is providing one of many answers to this problem. NuScale has develop
ed a small nuclear power system that is safe\, modular and scalable. The
technology was borne of research by leading nuclear scientists with the
support of the U.S. government. The design of the NuScale power plant b
uilds on hundreds of combined years of operating experience with commerc
ial light water reactors along with extensive research and laboratory te
sting of advanced safety systems.&#13\;\n&#13\;\nMeeting future demand f
or electricity requires that we use what we have more efficiently. We mu
st also look to new technologies using wind\, solar and wave power and u
se proven technologies such as nuclear power to meet the needs of future
generations.&#13\;\n&#13\;\nJoin us in for a night of networking and sh
owcase with local technology leaders and entrepreneurs.&#13\;\n&#13\;\nA

 regon&#13\;\n&#13\;\nPROGRAM:&#13\;\n&#13\;\nCo-working is a growing mov
ement around the United States and across the world. As more people work
from home or work while they are traveling or are in the midst of a rap
id startup cycle\, they find that they can be more effective and more pr
oductive by gathering together to work. Starting with projects like the
Hat Factory in San Francisco\, co-working sites have bloomed. There are
several co-working facilities in the Nortwest\, some which are expanding
to multiple cities and some that focus on specific audiences or markets
. The February SAO meeting will be a panel discussion by three Oregon co
-working entrepreneurs: Jeff Jimmerson from Madison Avenue Collective in
Corvallis\, Josh Friedman from Ned Space in Portland and Rick Turoczy f
rom Portland Innovation Experiment.&#13\;\n&#13\;\nJeff Jimerson\, found
er of the Madison Ave. Collective (http://www.madcollective.com/)&#13\;\
n&#13\;\nMadison Ave. Collective (the MAC) is a shared office and studio
space located in downtown Corvallis\, 72 steps west of Starbucks on the
corner of 5th street and—you guessed it—Madison Ave. After three months
of heavy remodeling\, Jeff opened the space on 08/08/08 with a &quot\;n
ice people wanted&quot\; Craigslist ad.&#13\;\n&#13\;\nToday\, twelve cr
eative and tech professionals call the MAC home for their respective sma
ll businesses.&#13\;\n&#13\;\nRick Turoczy\, founder of Silicon Florist
 (http://siliconflorist.com/)&#13\;\n&#13\;\nRick Turoczy has been workin
g in high-tech marketing communications jobs in the Portland area for th
e past 15 years. Out of pure dumb luck\, he happened to sit up in bed at
2 AM one night in August 2007 with the inspiration to start Silicon Flo
rist\, a blog about Portland startups in the Web\, Mobile\, and Open Sou
rce scenes.&#13\;\n&#13\;\nSince then\, he’s chatted with The Oregonian
a bunch of times\, appeared on local television and radio\, made a brief
appearance on the NewsHour with Jim Lehrer\, garnered bylines in The Ne
w York Times\, spoken at numerous events\, been selected as a runner up
 for the Portland Business Journal’s “40 under 40\,” launched a startup i
ncubator with the help of Wieden+Kennedy\, and co-produced a groundbreak
ing Web-based telethon called 30 hour day.&#13\;\n&#13\;\nAll because of
  a blog. Weird.&#13\;\n&#13\;\nJosh Friedman\, co-founder of NedSpace (h
 ttp://www.nedspace.com/)&#13\;\n&#13\;\nJosh Friedman is the co-founder
of NedSpace\, a provider of co-working facilities for entrepreneurs and
startups. NedSpace is designed to be the place where entrepreneurs go to
build and grow their businesses. Along with his business partner Mark G
rimes\, NedSpace has itself grown quickly into two locations from its la
unch in early 2009. The goal is to open 10 more locations throughout the
US in 2010\, and eventually to have a NedSpace in every city with a sta
rtup ecosystem.&#13\;\n&#13\;\nJosh serves on the Board of Starve Ups\,
a Portland-based entrepreneurial organization and the Oregon Entrepreneu
rs Forum Advisory Board. He holds a B.S. degree in speech communication
from Oregon State University. Aside from helping entrepreneurs grow thei
 r companies\, you might find him rock climbing\, skiing\, cycling\, brew
