Animation with 3D Printers
PCC Cascade Moriarty Arts Building Auditorium

Rob Ducey will present the digital design and puppet fabrication process used for Laika’s first three film productions, with many images and examples from ParaNorman. A 3D stop-motion animated comedy horror family film, ParaNorman is the first stop-motion film to use a 3D color printer to create character faces, and the second stop motion film to be shot in 3D! It received nominations for the 2012 Academy Award for Best Animated Feature and the BAFTA Award for Best Animated Film.

O!PLA Across The Borders includes winners from this year’s O!PLA Festival of Polish Animation — an exceptional sampling of contemporary films from the land of fields. This new collection includes independent work, student films, music videos, and animated epigrams. Presented by ASIFA Portland and Cascade ACM SIGGRAPH. O!PLA Across The Borders 2014 describes a Kafka-esque city where beetle people struggle to coexist with normal; a famous surrealist painting brought to life with stunning, stylized CG animation; a Polish-flavored version of The Matrix, where domestic routines are all part of the malevolent computer’s master plan.

Come out and see an exploration of computer-generated animation and visual effects, being shown in Portland at The PCC Cascade Auditorium and be inspired by digital artists while enjoying outstanding achievements in animated feature and short films, scientific visualization, visual effects, real-time graphics, game excerpts, and much more!

This year, SIGGRAPH’s Computer Animation Festival celebrates its 42st year and is recognized by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. Since 1999, several works originally presented in the Computer Animation Festival have been nominated for or have received a Best Animated Short Academy Award.

You can support and be involved with the local CG community by being a (yearly) member or by attending one event at a time. Cascade ACM SIGGRAPH is offering discounts for sister organizations, affiliates and students — tickets are available online or at the door.
