Second PDC Software Cluster Gathering
Portland Development Commission

This is our second community gathering in the process of identifying the elements the City needs to develop in order to have a thriving software cluster in the Portland region.

Our first survey in April helped identify the critical areas the city needed to focus on in order to build the cluster.

Our second survey in July drilled down into some specific ways to address these areas. At this meeting we will share the results of the July survey: • User group support • Creating a directory of local software companies and coders • Mentoring matching • Software company financing

Software is one of only four clusters that the Portland Development Commission is focusing on, so your input on this topic will have a large impact on what ultimately becomes our region's future for software success.

Register: http://oregontrainingnetwork.com/technology-executives-mentoring-group-preview/

According to a recent Portland Development Commission survey, the most pressing need for this area’s software and high tech leaders is mentoring.

When we gather together, we can create extraordinary breakthroughs for each other. We’re calling you to a gathering of CEOs and top executives from Software, Information Technology Developer and Provider Companies for a morning of exceptional candor, honesty, and mutual assistance on Wednesday, May 11, 2011, 7:45 AM to 10:30 AM at the offices of Stoel Rives, 900 SW 5th Ave, 19th floor.

Come join Richard Lazar, four-time CEO and serial entrepreneur at this Oregon Training Network event. Facilitating will be Tom Cox and Gabe Fasolino of the Portland Transformational Leadership Initiative (PTLI), creators of the CEO Group Coaching Model

You’ll get four primary benefits from attending this meeting:

  1. The chance to address a problem you’re facing — maybe one you don’t think is solvable
  2. The opportunity to receive support and connect with other CEOs
  3. The opportunity to give support to other CEOs
  4. Hands-on experience using a powerful organizational-change tool you can take back to the office and use with your team, thereby multiplying their effectiveness

Mentorship Speed-Dating -- Business, Software Development, Visual Communications
souk

Are you looking for a mentor? Are you looking for someone to mentor? Here's your chance to find a match!

Much like speed dating, we'll set you up with eight different mentors in your field, and you'll get 15 minutes to share your ideas, questions, answers and advice with each one.

Unlike speed dating, there's no awkward Yes/No checkboxes to turn in at the end. Everyone gets everyone else's contact info, and nobody feels left out. Hopefully.

We're looking for eight mentors and eight mentees (a funny word for someone who needs a mentor), in these three categories:

  • Business (10am - Noon) This includes anything in the topic of Business: sales, marketing, operations, finance, legal and management.

  • Software Development (1 - 3pm) This can include coding, programming, web app development, back-end, front-end, and anything related to making software.

  • Visual Communications (4 - 6pm) All things visual: art, design, graphics, visualization, photography, whatever gets the message across.

IMPORTANT: We can only accept 8 mentors and 8 mentees in each of the three categories.

To RSVP, email [email protected] and tell us your name, what category you'll be in (Business, Software Development or Visual Communications), and whether you're a mentor or mentee.)

On Tuesday, March 20th from 5:30 to 7:00 p.m, we will hold our second of the 2012 PDX11 Roundtable Series. This session’s topic is “The Psychology of Starting Up” – a first hand exploration of two different experiences that led to our speakers' successful launches.

The Portland startup scene is full of activity, talent, and new concepts – if you’ve got these but need a candid, firsthand account on how/when/why to leave the tarmac and launch your startup, this Roundtable’s for you. Refreshments will be served, and there are a limited number of seats. Please RSVP to Tamsen Galloway to reserve a spot at the roundtable. Details will be listed at www.calagator.org.

About the PDX11 Roundtable Series:

JANUARY 26 EVENT

Hi All - Excited to announce our first event of 2015. Our sponsor and host is New Relic. See you on the 29th floor of the "big pink"!

Topic is: "Recruiting Challenges in Todays World for Startup Founders", with the awesome Susan Robinson. Can't wait to see you all!

The Speaker: When Susan was working on her Bachelor of Engineering and MBA, she had no idea she would one day run her own company. She started her career as a Software Developer for a local software development company, before moving up to a Project Manager which was her first experience in hiring talent. She left the corporate world to become a consultant for a Professional Services organization for several years where she implemented ERP systems. Prior to Y2K when there was a shortage of local talent to provide software remediation, she moved into technology staffing. In those 15 years sha has experienced the highs and lows in hiring technology talent from Y2K, .com bubble and burst, the Great Recession and everything in between. because she loves what she does, in November of 2013 sha started Tech Talent Link where she focuses on assisting companies find technology talent either on direct hire or temporary basis.
