VoIP: Not your grandmother's phone any more
Intel Jones Farm Conference Center (JFCC)

VoIP: Not your grandmother's phone any more

Speaker: Prof. Henning Schulzrinne When: Thursday, June 11, 2009 Time: 6:00 PM ~ 8:30 PM Cost: Free and open to the public (registration required). Register: here

Place: JFCC Auditorium, Intel Corporation- Jones Farm, 2111, NE 25th Ave Hillsboro OR 97124

Abstract Since its emergence in the mid-1990s, voice-over-IP products and services have mainly attempted to mimic the "black phone" of decades past, providing cheaper basic phone service. However, VoIP has the potential to significantly improve real-time communications if it is combined with presence, context-aware and location-based services. Peer-to-peer networks can allow building highly-scalable, self-configuring systems. This talk will give a broad overview of VoIP, including its IMS variant, and some of the advanced services that are now in development, standardization or starting to appear as products.

Bio Prof. Schulzrinne co-developed protocols such as RTP, RTSP and SIP, are now Internet standards, used by almost all Internet telephony and multimedia applications. His research interests include Internet multimedia systems, ubiquitous computing, mobile systems, quality of service, and performance evaluation.

Envisioneering -- Leveraging Technology for Future Innovation
PSU Business Accelerator

The Technology Management Chapter of IEEE invites you to....

Envisioneering -- Leveraging Technology for Future Innovation With guest speaker Paul Menig, CEO of Tech-I-M Formerly intrapreneurial leader at General Electric, Eaton and Daimler

The pace of technology progress is continually increasing. Innovations in the vehicle industry is an example. Whether On-Highway or Off, future vehicles are going to be more complex, more durable, more varied than today. Our ability to engineer products that perform as expected will depend on our vision of the future, our ability to model the vehicle in its environment and solid engineering. We can probably see with our eyes what commercial vehicles in 2020 will look like. It will take something more to envisioneer the vehicle of 2030 and prepare the models and tools we will need to make them amazingly reliable and easy to use and maintain

By the end of the session, attendees will better understand: How long does it take from concept to production What are the trends driving innovation What are the challenges to product development of new innovations What drives innovation What is the future of moving products from factories to consumers
