Demolicious is back! This monthly pitch event brings together founders and the community to learn about what is being built here and around Portland.

How this all works: If you are a founder, you will apply to pitch here. Don't worry. "Apply" simply means you want to pitch, but there's no real competitive process to be accepted. We just want to see what you're working on before we put you in front of a room full of people.

You will be given 3 minutes to pitch at the event.

The audience will be given a number to text and vote for their favorite one. The one with the most votes will go home with the Demolicious Championship belt.

The belt is not for you to keep as you will have to come back and "defend" it. However, you will be allowed to put your startup sticker (if applicable) on the belt for all to see and to live on forever in infamy!

We will post the projects/companies that will be pitching a week prior to the event. Which means you have until then to fill out the form.

This 90-minute training is the first step in understanding how you can be and what you can do at networking events. I highly encourage those who frequent events to come to this training too. You experts can also come out of this with a new fun approach to the next event you go to.

We aim to have people in leadership roles to people just starting out in their industries attend this workshop. With the intention to learn from one another no matter what experience level they are at. There is a lot to learn when we come together with intention and skill-sharing practices. Yeah, no kidding! We’re bringing XOXO back this August 22–24 to Revolution Hall in Portland, one last time.

After the last XOXO in 2019, we had decided to start wrapping things up, planning for one final festival in September 2020. Then obviously the pandemic arrived, derailing our plans entirely, and turns out, postponing them for almost four years.

Since 2019, XOXO sat unfinished in our imaginations, while we’ve watched the world continue to become a more challenging place for independent artists and creators. Many in our community are out of work, crushed by widespread layoffs across the media, games, and tech industries. It feels like many technology companies and platforms are doing everything they can to hurt artists instead of supporting them.

Owners Nathan and Mary have lived in the neighborhood since 2003, and wanted to create a space where their neighbors could gather together over cups of delicious coffee, great snacks, and beautiful books. Mary was inspired by the library stacks at The University of Texas, where her mother worked, and by the breakfast tacos of her hometown of Austin. Most of the books in The Stacks Community Library were donated by friends and neighbors, and book donations are always accepted!

They also have a wonderful outside area and if the weather is nice, that's where we'll meet!

In February of last year, Portland's City Council passed a surveillance policy resolution to increase transparency and accountability in the use of surveillance technologies in Portland. As part of the resolution, Smart City PDX has been tasked with designing and implementing a citywide inventory of surveillance technologies owned or used by City Bureaus. During the summer, Smart City PDX and the Office of Equity and Human Rights held a series of public events and released a survey to gather input from local communities to help determine what information should be included in the inventory.

PDX2600 is a monthly open forum for hackers in Portland Oregon. It happens on the first Friday of every month. There are no memberships, no leaders, and no real structure. Only the free exchange of ideas.

Every month the UpStart Collective opens up to the startup community at large to raise a glass, network, and feature one of the founders that make the space so special.

This month we are featuring local startup founder, Nick Lawson of Sqwad who will talk about their sports marketing platform, how they were able to land teams such as the Yankees, Cowboys, and more. He will also talk about how they plan to grow for 2024 and beyond.

Westside Pitch is a startup competition for Washington County entrepreneurs seeking to showcase their early-stage businesses. Competitors will have the chance to pitch their business venture to a panel of local investors. In preparation for the event, participating businesses will receive personalized coaching by Laura Kubisiak.

Eligible competitors include all entrepreneurs that either operate their business or live in Washington County. Selected businesses will have developed a unique product or service solution that solves a big problem in a national or international market.

Not ready to compete but wish to attend anyway? Spectators are welcome!

He began his journey at Intel incubating frontier technology into new business models, with partners. Over the course of 24 years, he’s delivered concepts in AI, the Internet of Things, Mixed Reality, Space, Healthcare, Additive Manufacturing, and Blockchain. He’s been mentor to deep tech startups (orbital observation, silicon photonics) and has sponsored translational research in AI for Space applications with NASA Frontier Development Lab. He currently serves as Principal at the Portland Seed Fund, advising and evaluating deep tech startups. When he’s not dreaming about quantum computers and neuroscience (in space), you’ll find him teaching innovation and entrepreneurship to high school students through TiE Young Entrepreneurs and serving on the Board of Directors at the Evergreen Aviation and Space Museum. Jamie Sherman: Jamie Sherman, PhD is a cultural anthropologist and user experience researcher. She has been working in the technology and UX space since 2012 when she was fortunate to join Intel, working on a range of existing and emerging technologies from virtual reality to gaming, content creation, and AI. Today she is Principal UX Researcher at ESRI focusing the UX of data and analytics in Geographic Information Systems.

Mike Premi: Mike Premi is an accomplished professional with a track record of success in sales and business development leadership, healthcare product management, and product marketing. With extensive experience in managing clinical trials of new technology solutions and driving global service innovation, Mike has cultivated strategic partnerships with prominent organizations such as the VA, American Medical Association, and American Pharmacists Association. His contributions extend beyond corporate realms, with multiple patents issued in healthcare software. As a co-founder of a healthcare startup business at Intel, Mike led partnerships with the AMA and APhA, resulting in the acquisition by a market segment leader. Paul Sorenson: With over 40 years of Human Factors Engineering/UX Research experience and a background that includes roles at Facebook, IBM, Lockheed, Hewlett Packard, and Intel, Paul Sorenson is an expert in user experience research. Specializing in user-centered, mixed-methods research, Paul's recent focus has been hand-held, wearable, and augmented/mixed reality technology and products. His expertise in experimental design, sensory perception, cognition, and human factors engineering has significantly influenced multi-sensory experience research and design.

RainSec is an informal group of like-minded security professionals who meet to network and discuss topics of interest in a non-work, non-vendor setting.

Each sheet will have a unique number associated with it: (1, 2, 3, etc). You’ll have a name tag with that same number.

Everyone’s task will be to look at the board of opportunities and select at least 3 people you’d like to connect with, in whatever capacity.

How do you connect with them? You write your name and "sheet number" on a Post-It note and slap it on their sheet.

This month we are back at Taborspace. It's been nearly 5 years since we held a meetup in this space so we decided to come back.

We will do our best to provide some signage so people can identify the group more easily. We've heard you and know that it's a bit awkward to ask, "Are you here for the meetup!" when there's nothing to identify the group.
