Personal Telco Project Birthday and New Node Work Party
16475 SW Cynthia Street, Beaverton Oregon

Come celebrate Personal Telco's 10th birthday, but plugging in another node!

http://www.personaltelco.net/~russell/the-beginning.txt

Ten years ago to the day, Adam Shand, inspired by a slashdot article on Consume.net in London, wrote a message to the Portland Linux Users Group mailing list. That message got Personal Telco off the ground, and it's been flying (sometimes eating some pine cones) ever since. Come help it gain some more altitude and soar with you into the future!

We'll be plugging in a new rooftop node out in the depths of Beaverton at about 12 noon tomorrow. It shouldn't take too long, so don't be too late or we'll be all done when you get there.

Where: 16475 SW Cynthia Street, Beaverton OR 97007

When: Noon, Sunday, November 28, 2010 until 1 or 2pm

We are going to be attaching another of the Ubiquiti Bullet M2HP's to a 5 foot mast on the roof, attached to a WgtCab inside. Come join the fun, watch, learn, participate!

Ask not what free wifi can do for you, ask what you can do for free wifi!

Beulahland

Personal Telco is a collection of individuals, businesses, and organizations who share -- or plan to share -- internet connectivity rather than hoard it. It's also a group of volunteers who want this network to grow. We believe internet access should be available, fair, and uncensored. Personal Telco Project is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization in PDX.

Whether you're a technology wizard or technically incompetent, volunteering with us is a great way to learn something new, enjoy teaching others, or use your skills to do something useful!

Personal Telco Project Weekly Meeting with Municipal Fiber discussion
Bit House Saloon

Another discussion about what Muni Fiber looks like, and about how to make it happen, and progress on how it is happening. One downside of this venue is that I think it is 21+, so no minors this week. Sorry!

Personal Telco Project Weekly Meeting with Municipal Fiber discussion
Buffalo Gap,

This is our first Weekly Meeting of 2018. To get the new year off to a running start, we are going to lead off the meeting with a discussion about Municipal Fiber. I am always ready to talk about it, but particularly so this time because the simmering pot of public opinion had an extra jolt of fire over the holidays with the retrograde FCC vote, voiding the Open Internet rules that the previous Wheeler FCC had adopted, and has begun to boil over. A number of scattered efforts have emerged trying to push a municipal internet system (e.g. on Facebook and Reddit). I have invited a number of them to our meeting. I also saw David Olson (BCC'd) this morning and invited him to come along, which he suggested was a possibility, although he has another engagement, so he'll need to leave after the first hour.

And we have a smattering of other business on the agenda.

Should be fun! See you there!

Regular weekly meeting (location varies) of the Personal Telco Project, a volunteer-based non-profit dedicated to the idea that users play a central role in the operation of their networks. Communication is a fundamental human need, we shouldn't be ceding that ground to self-interested mega-corporations that bait and switch service offerings at their whim and at prices they dictate.

We are preparing to redeploy the first of our SkyPilots in a real network. The initial install is scheduled for this Saturday, February 12 adjacent to Arbor Lodge Park. This weekly will mostly center on preparation and planning for the install. We need warm bodies to help on Saturday, and coming early to help plan would help too. See you there!
