Why are we doing this?

The goal of this workshop is to provide a refreshing approach to networking. We coach individuals to confidently navigate networking events, ensuring they represent themselves well, understand expectations, and leverage their key skills to achieve their goals. Nobody gives proper training on how to approach these events, making it an oversight in our community. We want to change that! This 90-minute training is the first step in understanding how you can be and what you can do at networking events. I highly encourage those who frequent events to come to this training too. You experts can also come out of this with a new fun approach to the next event you go to.

Who is it for?

We aim to have people in leadership roles to people just starting out in their industries attend this workshop. With the intention to learn from one another no matter what experience level they are at. There is a lot to learn when we come together with intention and skill-sharing practices. No management, No selling, No recruiting, No problems. Talking to people about your product(s) or career networking is fine but people "leeching" on the attendance isn't cool so don't do it. Industry folks with expense cards typically cover festivities but this isn't a "sponsored" event and we don't intend to turn BwE into "powerpoint parties". Venue will be dynamic alternating between locations and if group size demands we'll book a location to support.

2018 marks our 3rd year as a meetup! We meet at 10 Barrel every other month for casual #thinksndrinks and chats. This is perfect for someone who wants to learn about Service Design, talk about new trends, share current projects, and ask for advice from the group.

You will be able to find us at 10 Barrel because we will be the only people with print outs, worksheets, post-its and sharpies. :) We sketch. We talk. We have beer. It's a good time.

Every other month when we're not at 10 Barrel, we host hands-on service blueprinting workshops. In exchange for hosting our group, we collect problem statements/ user scenarios from our hosts in advance, and lead a hands-on workshop to build service design blueprints and deliver recommendations in 2 hours. Tech’s lack of diversity can feel like an affront to all of us, with cultural biases and implicit messages that are particularly harmful to underrepresented groups. Changing the tech culture requires a lot of people making individual choices that actively tear down and confront everyday biases and microaggressions. Such work is difficult and takes practice. Join Kristina Houck and Tanya L. Crenshaw as they guide participants through exercises and discussions. You will uncover personal obstacles and practice strategies to engage in culture change. At the moment, this Emacs Hangout will have the following agenda:

• Getting Things Done with Org Mode. This is a workshop designed to show many of the features of org-mode that will really help you get and stay organized. Corny as it sounds, but when people talk about org-mode changing how you run your life, this is it. Please have a running Emacs on a laptop in order to fully participate. The Open Web Application Security Project (OWASP) is a 501c3 not-for-profit worldwide charitable organization focused on improving the security of application software.

This informal chapter meeting will give attendees a chance to chat about whatever application security topics they are most interested in. Matthew will discuss the OWASP Testing Framework. Tim will offer his impressions of the Zed Attack Proxy. Other topics are welcome.

We're going to try something a little bit different and new. Our group is very interested in a hike and our co-organizer suggested a fun activity Geocaching. How about trying both? We're updating the location to Tualatin Hills Nature Park/Center.

It's forecasted to rain, but we'll try anyway; it is Oregon. You can choose to hike, Geocache, or both. We'll spend about an hour together and you can choose to spend more time on your own.
