45 Camp Jumpstart Weekend
through Briq Studio

Gives entrepreneurs a crash course in how to build a ClimateTech* Startup. 45Camp JumpStart provides a concentrated 3-day weekend with training, mentorship and connections to let you explore the idea of building a ClimateTech Startup. You’ll also see examples of VertueLab Entrepreneurs who are making it in ClimateTech. VertueLab is a ClimateTech non-profit that is focused on helping Pacific Northwest ClimateTech entrepreneurs achieve their goals.

Ideas come from anywhere, and individuals with those ideas often don’t have the entrepreneurial awareness, tools, or guidance to get started in their exploration. Also, entrepreneurship is new in many communities and they need a jumpstart to gain the right knowledge and connections to move forward.

The best way to discover, learn, and explore entrepreneurship is through a hands-on approach and meeting others that are building technology and can explain by showing. JumpStart Weekends are designed to be a comfortable space to gather curious individuals and introduce them to tools and methods they can use to explore their ideas and get instant feedback and mentorship, all packaged over a weekend.

Although it's in our mission to address the impacts of climate change, entrepreneurship is for everyone. We want to increase access to entrepreneurship, and provide the tools and knowledge to everyone so that we are all part of the solution. So no prior knowledge of ClimateTech is required, all you need is an idea and the curiosity to know more and explore in a weekend of fun, we encourage you to apply!

A Great Mindset, Pre and Post Coding Bootcamps with Nicson Martinez
The Tech Academy

Nicson Martinez, Tech Academy graduate, will be joining us to discuss how to keep a great mindset pre and post-coding boot camp.

Coming to the US from Honduras at ten years old opened up a lot of opportunities for Nicson, especially in the realm of technology. After growing up in The Bronx and going on to get his BS in Computer Information Systems, Nicson actually ended up getting out of the tech industry for a number of years after an unsuccessful attempt at learning to code. But with the desire still there after all those years, he decided to try again and more seriously pursue his interest in coding, so he attended The Tech Academy.

Nicson graduated in 2019 and is currently working as a Software Developer at Microsoft.

In this Talk, Nicson will share his experience with The Tech Academy, landing a job and will share tips on how to keep a great mindset through the process and after graduation.

Join us Friday, September 30th at 1 pm Pacific Time (2p MT, 3p CT, 4p ET) in our Google Meet room.

RSVP on Meetup: https://bit.ly/techtalk930 RSVP on Eventbrite: https://bit.ly/TechTalkE930

Can't make it live? We will be posting the recording to our Tech Talks playlist on our YouTube Channel: https://bit.ly/TTA-techtalks

Don't miss this great opportunity to learn and network!

AgilePDX: Wardley Mapping Introduction
Puppet

Note: Register here for the pizza and pop headcount, please: https://www.meetup.com/AgilePDX-User-Group-Portland-Metro/events/250147486/

Why maps? Conceptual maps allow for visual strategic analysis: for executives, managers, PMs, consultants - and anyone seeking situational awareness for better decision making. Join us to hear Scott Henderson introduce the concept of Wardley Mapping, created by Simon Wardley. A community is growing around the use and understanding of this tool. Scott hopes by sharing his understanding with us, more can add their voices and insights to the conversation.

Simon Wardley is a researcher with Leading Edge Forum and creator of Wardley mapping. He developed the tool to address his concern about his strategic initiatives. Since 2005, he's used it in government, police, pharmaceuticals, high speed rail, immigration... but the benefits are best introduced in his own words: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9G9dK55wpvw

Scott Henderson is a senior agile coach and has previously served as CIO, Director of Operations, Director of Client Services, and Senior Program Manager. An advocate for community engagement, he’s founded a co-working space based on the agile manifesto, hosted StartUp Weekends here and abroad, Laid Off Camp for older workers and Coder’s dojo for kids. He’s spoken to groups on Open Source, Education, Entrepreneurship, and Enterprise Lean product flow. While grateful for all he learned at Ohio State University, the University of Philippines, and Musicians Institute, it’s his perspective as orphan, exchange student and up-close observer of revolutions which has led to a varied and nuanced understanding of the power dynamics of the world. He's enthusiastic about complex ideas but when asked, he’d say he’s pretty simple himself and aspires to be a good dad and husband.

Alchemy Open House About Learning to Code and Starting a Great Career
Alchemy Code Lab

Each Thursday, Alchemy welcomes anyone interested in our program, Portland's most accelerated coding boot camp, to stop in to take a tour of the school, meet our staff, students, and instructors, and ask any questions about an education and career in software development.

We look forward to meeting you! No appointment necessary, just stop in and we'll be ready to greet you!!!

ABOUT ALCHEMY CODE LAB: Learn from industry professionals in a collaborative environment with in-person instruction from experienced software developers. They share their knowledge and practices to enter the field at a more advanced level.

Be supported by teaching assistants and career coaching. A low instructional staff to student ratio of 6 to 1 means you have access to the guidance and help you need to successfully complete our rigorous training. Get prepared and ready to network and connect with the companies that interest you and need your technical skills and experiences.

Get more out of your code school. Go beyond online and video-based programs to launch your career at an accelerated level. With a median starting salary of $76k (and an average starting salary of $86K), our graduates earn 25%-50% more than other schools.

Call 503.445.4575 or email [email protected] with any questions!

Check out our blog (https://www.alchemycodelab.com/blog) to learn more about our diverse and talented grads, and Course Report (https://www.coursereport.com/schools/alchemy-code-lab) and SwitchUp (https://www.switchup.org/bootcamps/alchemy-code-lab) for reviews.
