DESCRIPTION:How to learn to parse huge XML documents by doing it wrong fo
 r 5 years&#13\;\nspeaker: Tyler Riddle &#13\;\n&#13\;\n When XML documen
ts can't fit into memory the vast majority of solutions &#13\;\navailabl
e on CPAN are no longer available to you\; when the XML &#13\;\ndocument
s are so large they take up to 16 hours to process with the &#13\;\nstan
dard tools for handling large documents your hands are tied even &#13\;\
nmore. Tyler will cover his learning experiences creating the &#13\;\nPa
rse::MediaWikiDump and MediaWiki::DumpFile modules which are made to &#1
3\;\nhandle the 24 gigabyte English Wikipedia dump files in a reasonable
  &#13\;\ntime frame.&#13\;\n&#13\;\n 1) Real world benchmarks of C and p
erl libraries used to process huge&#13\;\n XML documents. &#13\;\n&#1
3\;\n 2) The dirty little secret about XS and what it means for you in t
his&#13\;\n context. &#13\;\n&#13\;\n 3) The evolution of the impleme
ntation of a nice interface around event&#13\;\n oriented (SAX style)
  XML parsing. &#13\;\n&#13\;\n 4) Why XML::LibXML::Reader and XML::Compa
ctTree are your friends and&#13\;\n how to tame them.&#13\;\n&#13\;\n
&#13\;\nAs always\, the meeting will be followed by social hour at the L
 ucky Lab.&#13\;\n\n\nTags: perl\, xml\, beer\n\nImported from: http://ca

DESCRIPTION: speaker: Eric Wilhelm &#13\;\n&#13\;\nShebangml is a markup
language which saves programmers from gouging their eyes out on pointy a
ngle brackets.&#13\;\n&#13\;\nMost pointy ML data (SGML/XML/XHTML/HTML)
can be translated to and from this human-readable\, bacony syntax. This
allows modern programmers to interface with legacy software such as WWW
browsers and other relics like &quot\;Enterprise Java Software&quot\;. B
ut the true power of shebangml lies in the '#!' (hash-bang/shebang) and
its programmable templating features. &#13\;\n Unlike most &quot\;don't
make me write HTML&quot\; generators and markup replacements\, hbml pres
erves the good parts of the quoting constructs and attributes+content na
ture of XML. This makes it not only a fine replacement for obsolete mark
up languages\, but also an ideal foundation for new dialects and applica
tions. The pluggable syntax and interpreter allow you to define static o
r dynamically loadable constructs\, which allows your application to bal
ance convenience features with security issues using clear separations.&
#13\;\n&#13\;\n This presentation will cover the Shebangml syntax\, the
basics of the parser/interpreter module\, the extensions API\, and two r
eal-world applications (the FreeTUIT declarative GUI toolkit and the pre
sentation generator Text::Slidez.)&#13\;\n&#13\;\n As usual\, the meetin
g will be followed by social hour at the Lucky Lab.\n\nTags: pdx.pm\, pe

DESCRIPTION:Tim Morgan will be presenting: What You Didn't Know About XML
External Entities Attacks&#13\;\n&#13\;\nThe eXtensible Markup Language
(XML) is an extremely pervasive technology used in countless software p
rojects. Certain features built into the design of XML\, namely inline
schemas and document type definitions (DTDs) are a well-known source of
potential security problems. Despite being a publicly discussed for mor
e than a decade\, a significant percentage of software using XML remains
vulnerable to malicious schemas and DTDs. This talk will describe a co
llection of techniques for exploiting XML external entities (XXE) vulner
abilities\, some of which we believe are novel. These techniques can al
low for more convenient file content theft\, sending of arbitrary data t
o arbitrary internal TCP services\, uploads of arbitrary files to known
locations on a vulnerable system\, as well as several possible denial of
service attacks. We hope this talk will raise awareness about the overa
ll risk associated with XXE attacks and will provide recommendations tha
t developers and XML library implementors can use to help prevent these
attacks. &#13\;\n&#13\;\nTim Morgan is credited with the discovery and r
esponsible disclosure of several security vulnerabilities in commercial
off-the-shelf and open source software including: IBM Tivoli Access Mana
ger\, Real Networks Real Player\, Sun Java Runtime Environment\, Google
Chrome Web Browser\, OpenOffice\, and Oracle WebLogic Application Server
. Tim develops and maintains several open source forensics tools as well
as Bletchley\, an application cryptanalysis tool kit. Tim regularly spe
aks and delivers technical training courses\, his next of which will be
on cryptography for developers at AppSecUSA 2014. &#13\;\n&#13\;\nThe Op
en Web Application Security Project (OWASP) is a 501c3 not-for-profit wo
rldwide charitable organization focused on improving the security of app
lication software. To sign up for future meeting notes and to discuss se
