DESCRIPTION:This event runs from Wednesday\, June 10\, 2009 at 9am throug
 h Friday\, June 12\, 2009 at 5pm.\n\nDescription:\nLearn everything you
need to know about agile delivery in this three-day course. We use an in
novative course structure that allows you to do real agile software deve
lopment in cross-functional teams. Using two instructors and splitting t
he group as appropriate\, we ensure that programmers get plenty of techn
ical depth without boring everyone else.&#13\;\n&#13\;\nYou'll learn:&#1
 3\;\n&#13\;\n- Eliminating bugs&#13\;\n- Incremental requirements&#13\;\
n- Working with stakeholders&#13\;\n- Customer tests and acceptance test
 -driven development&#13\;\n- Test-driven development&#13\;\n- Refactorin
 g&#13\;\n- Code management&#13\;\n- Continuous integration&#13\;\n- Expl
 oratory testing&#13\;\n- Pairing&#13\;\n- Incremental design and risk-dr
 iven architecture&#13\;\n- Cross-functional collaboration&#13\;\n&#13\;\
 nProgrammers\, testers\, on-site customers\, business analysts\, project
  managers\, product managers\, ScrumMasters\, coaches\, team leads\, and
anyone else on an agile team will benefit from this course.&#13\;\n&#13
\;\nResults&#13\;\n&#13\;\nAfter completing this course\, you will be pr
 epared to:&#13\;\n&#13\;\n- Work in a cross-functional team with on-site
  customers\, testers\, and programmers&#13\;\n- Understand and accommoda
te diverse stakeholder opinions&#13\;\n- Build and ship complete increme
nts of software in one-week iterations&#13\;\n- Create nearly bug-free c
ode using test-driven development\, refactoring\, and exploratory testin
g&#13\;\n- Prevent build failures with continuous integration&#13\;\n- B
uild technical infrastructure incrementally alongside features&#13\;\n&#
13\;\nTestimonials&#13\;\n&#13\;\n&quot\;I don't know how they pulled of
f the [class project]\, but going through four iterations brought the co

development side. Diana's four-quadrant diagrams (about stakeholders) we

13\;\nDeveloping Requirements for Legacy Systems presented by Bill Baker
&#13\;\n&#13\;\nAbstract:&#13\;\nMany legacy systems were created withou
t documented requirements. Over the years\, changes were made\, often wi
thout adequate documentation. Software quality suffers as the system bec
omes more and more complex. This presentation will provide a case study
of bringing requirements management and other related process improvemen
ts to a legacy software product — one which has been successful for over
twenty years.&#13\;\n&#13\;\nA cross-functional team of management unde
rtook a project to improve significantly the processes related to requir
ements. This presentation describes the lessons learned while undertakin
g this project. Among these are:&#13\;\n• A good implementation start is
essential. Outside consultants are useful. Fully involve all stakeholde
rs.&#13\;\n• Different audiences have different needs. Find effective wa
ys to communicate to each audience.&#13\;\n• Be pragmatic when choosing
what requirements to write and how much effort to put into describing th
e current system.&#13\;\n• Leverage tool adoption to make changes that a
re more general to the software development process.&#13\;\n&#13\;\nAuth
or Bio:&#13\;\nBill Baker is a software development manager at Sage in B
eaverton Oregon. He has been involved in software development\, project
management\, and process improvement for a number of years. While at Har
land Financial Solutions\, Bill led the improvements outlined in this pa
per. Bill has a Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering from Washington State Un
iversity and an excessive collection of other degrees from Washington St
ate University and Michigan State University.&#13\;\n&#13\;\nAbout the R
ose City SPIN:&#13\;\nThe Rose City Software Process Improvement Network
(SPIN) is a monthly forum for networking\, mutual support\, and promoti
on of effective software practices. We exchange practical experiences\,
ideas\, knowledge\, wisdom\, and war stories about the technical\, busin
ess\, and human facets of software process improvement. The Rose City S
PIN serves the software development community of the Portland/Vancouver
metro area. Whether you work for a large company or a small one\, corpo
rate or self-employed\, industrial or academic setting\, you are welcome

DESCRIPTION:Build Winning Products with Rapid Customer Insigh&#13\;\nThe
Build Winning Products with Rapid Customer Insight workshop gives you th
e tools necessary to deliver successful products through more effective
ways to access customers\, listen for their needs\, and integrate this l
earning into real products. This program is ideal for Agile and Lean dev
elopment teams working with fast-paced development schedules.&#13\;\n&#1
3\;\nExclusive offer! OTBC has partnered with Planning Innovations to pi
lot this program to 12 participants at a special “at cost” rate of $
 57. By participating\, you agree to join us for a 90-minute facilitated
discussion to provide Planning Innovations feedback on the program. Aft
er this pilot offer\, the program will normally be offered at $895/parti
cipant.&#13\;\n&#13\;\nThe best way to learn is by doing. This program i
s highly interactive with role-playing\, real customer interviews\, and
participating in real world requirements tradeoff discussions using the
tools we discuss in the program. &#13\;\n&#13\;\nWe'll focus on key ques
tions and challenges\, such as:&#13\;\n\nHow do I determine the right cu
stomers for insight?&#13\;\nHow can I build a customer panel for fast ac
cess?&#13\;\nWhat are the best ways to really “listen” for customer
needs?&#13\;\nHow can I understand the tradeoffs customer make every day
?&#13\;\nHow do I manage and communicate fuzzy customer input?&#13\;\n\n

cases\, DEV’s? Business Analysts? Tech facilitators? Remember Use Cases?
Much of what we used to do\, has become muddled and wrapped up in termi
