DESCRIPTION:Our next get together will be in May with David Stewart from
Intel! He is joining us to talk about &quot\;doubling performance in Swi
ft with no code changes&quot\;&#13\;\n&#13\;\nAll interpreted languages
come to the point in their evolution where a radical turn is needed to o
ptimize performance and a Just In Time (JIT) compilation is the directio
n they have all turned. We would argue that now is the time for Python.
In perhaps an extreme case\, Swift’s performance is greatly affected by
the latency of Python’s default CPython interpreter. Recently Swift thr
oughput was improved 111% on a 15 node storage cluster and response time
was boosted 87%. This was achieved by using PyPy\, the JIT version of P
ython. This talk will describe a proof-of-concept study using PyPy in pr
oduction with Swift\, offer a roadmap for broad adoption of PyPy in the
Python world\, and provide clear steps for implementing PyPy in Swift.&#
13\;\n&#13\;\nBio: David Stewart is the manager of the Server Language O
ptimization Team in the Data Center Software Technology group at Intel w
here he helped launch the effort. David has been an operating systems de
velopment expert for his whole career\, starting out with Unix in 1980.
David serves on various boards including the Yocto Project Advisory Boar
d and the CE Linux Working Group\, both part of the Linux Foundation. Be
fore the formation of his current team\, David held a variety of managem
ent positions in Intel’s Software and Services Group and in Intel’s Desk
top Boards and Systems division. \n\nTags: openstack devops linux cloud

DESCRIPTION:Have you heard of the OpenStack Innovation Center (aka OSIC h
ttps://osic.org/)? It's a joint effort between Rackspace and Intel desi
gned to ultimately consist of about 2\,000 physical nodes deployed at tw
o data centers in Texas and California\, OSIC is expected to further acc
elerate the development of OpenStack capabilities and their adoption in
the enterprise.&#13\;\n&#13\;\nSonu Sreenivasan and David Brown will joi
n us on July 21st to talk about everything under the OSIC umbrella - in
cluding how developers can request access for their testing and developm
ent\, and some of the use cases they've seen deployed in the environment
.&#13\;\n&#13\;\nWe will also be celebrating OpenStack's 6th birthday th
is month\, so please come help us honor six years of incredible growth a
nd progress in the OpenStack world!&#13\;\n&#13\;\nAbout our presenters
this month:&#13\;\nSonu Sreenivasan is a Program Manager at the OpenSour
ce Technoloy Center at Intel. He also oversees the engineering execution
for the OSIC partnership. He brings with him about 18 years of industry
experience spread across\, software design &amp\; development\, IT Oper
ations\, program management\, and cross-geo software delivery management
across various business verticals. He has been with Intel for over 15 y
ears and was based across multiple geographies. Sonu has a Bachelors in
Physics and a Masters in Computer Science&#13\;\n&#13\;\nDavid Brown is
the director of the Data Center SW Planning team\, primarily focused on
driving Intel's OpenStack strategy. Prior to joining Intel\, David was V
ice President of Professional Services at Sequent Computers where his fo
cus was to manage a global consulting operation.\n\nTags: openstack devo
