DESCRIPTION:Everett Toews\, Developer Advocate at Rackspace Hosting\, wil
l share his experience using Git and Markdown to make it easier for the
community to propose changes to their documentation. &#13\;\nPlease arri
ve by 6pm. I want to start sort of promptly\, by 6:05. (I'll be there by
5:30.) &#13\;\nThe building entry doors will be locked at 7pm. &#13\;\n
I'll appreciate help cleaning up\, so we can depart by 8:30.&#13\;\n&#13
 \;\n***********************************&#13\;\n&#13\;\nA common complain
t against many open source projects is documentation. Insufficient\, inc
orrect\, non-existent\, hard to find\, and difficult to update are thing
s we typically all hear. There are a lot of different ways to tackle the
se problems. There's no silver bullet but one of my favorite tactics is
lowering the barriers for absolutely anyone to contribute documentation.
 &#13\;\n&#13\;\n&#13\;\nIdeally\, lowering the barriers means:&#13\;\n&#
13\;\n&#13\;\n* using a common and well understood documentation markup
language&#13\;\n&#13\;\n* using documentation editors that are commonly
available&#13\;\n&#13\;\n* not requiring your contributors to install an
d configure tools&#13\;\n&#13\;\n* providing a preview of the updates to
make reviews reviews easier&#13\;\n&#13\;\n&#13\;\nLearn how Apache jcl
ouds has enabled walkup contributions to our project documentation. We'v
e benefited from better documentation\, shorter review times\, and build
 ing community through contribution.\n\nTags: writing\, documentation\, m

DESCRIPTION:Speaker: Chester Ismay (https://github.com/ismayc) - Instruct
 ional Technologist/Statistical Consultant at Reed College &#13\;\n&#13\;
\nAbstract: One of the great recent additions from RStudio is the abilit
y to create templates in R Markdown that allows R users to customize out
put to a variety of document formats while only needing to write in Mark
down. You can create templates for outputting Word documents\, HTML docu
ments\, and PDF documents all including R code and its output. I’ll disc
uss how to go about creating templates\, demonstrate an R Markdown senio
r thesis template I created for Reed College seniors that interfaces wit
h the traditional LaTeX thesis template\, and hopefully provide you with
an opportunity to write a template of your own during this meeting.\n\n
