DESCRIPTION:Clojure on AWS Lambda is like the Reese's Peanut Butter Cup o
f the functional programming world. Lambda gives you an easy way to run
your functions in the cloud without needing to provision or manage any s
ervers. It's also really cheap and extremely scalable. In this short pre
sentation we'll walk through building and deploying a Clojure microservi
ce using only AWS Lambda and API Gateway. We'll also discuss ways that y
our Lambda functions could support larger applications in an AWS environ
 ment. &#13\;\n&#13\;\n&#13\;\nBio: &#13\;\n&#13\;\nDan Anolik has been d
oing a mix of software development and solutions architecture in the Por
tland area for over 19 years. He has worked as a consultant for building
cloud native applications and is a fairly recent convert to Clojure. Aw
ay from the keyboard Dan plays mandolin in a bluegrass band and has been
  a long-time wilderness search and rescue volunteer. \n\nTags: clojure\,

DESCRIPTION:This month we'll have member provided lighting talks. We have
two scheduled so far and room for more. Get in touch if you want to do
one also.&#13\;\n&#13\;\nFirst we have John Skilbeck talking about conve
rting a traditional Clojure project meant to be run on a server or on do
cker into a AWS Lambda runtime\, while leaving the original project's so
urce code intact. He'll provide a brief background on AWS Lambda and how
that works\, and then a walkthrough of the project.&#13\;\n&#13\;\n---&
#13\;\n&#13\;\nThen we'll have JR Heard's talk: An Introduction to Spect
er&#13\;\n&#13\;\nSpecter is a library that allows you to elegantly and
performantly manipulate Clojure/Script data structures. In this sure-to-
 be-compelling lightning talk\, we'll learn why Specter exists\, how to u
se it\, and how to write our own Specter &quot\;navigators&quot\;.\n\nTa

DESCRIPTION:The Portland Serverless Meetup is back! New hosts\, new locat
ion\, same great group.&#13\;\n&#13\;\n**Interested in speaking at a fut

 #13\;\nThis month we'll have two talks:&#13\;\n&#13\;\nSelf-healing serv
 erless applications&#13\;\n&#13\;\nServerless applications increasingly
involve distributed systems where errors and bottlenecks can have signif
icant downstream impact. This can be compounded by the ephemeral nature
of FaaS offerings in which errors can be difficult to diagnose retroacti
vely. In this session we'll discuss instrumentation and &quot\;self-heal
ing&quot\; architectural patterns that will improve resiliency of your a
pplication and drive improved observability and performance.&#13\;\n&#13
\;\nYou get serverless. Your team gets serverless. But does your organiz
ation get serverless?&#13\;\n&#13\;\nYou know a serverless architecture
is the right solution for a project\, but your VP of Engineering is push
ing back. They are probably doing this because it’s not obvious how a se
rverless architecture will fit into the organization’s existing developm
ent\, testing\, and release processes. Their intuition that new techniqu
es are needed to effectively maintain and extend serverless architecture
s is spot-on. But they can be convinced serverless is the right approach
if you show them successful patterns.\n\nTags: serverless\, lambda\, aw

DESCRIPTION:This month we will have two talks:&#13\;\n&#13\;\n&quot\;What
the Heck is OAuth?&quot\;&#13\;\n&#13\;\nThe OAuth 2.0 authorization fr
amework has become the industry standard in providing secure access to w
eb APIs. OAuth allows users to grant external applications access to the
ir data\, such as profile data\, photos\, and email\, without compromisi
ng security. However\, OAuth can be intimidating when first starting out
. In this talk\, Aaron Parecki will break down the various OAuth workflo
ws and provide a simplified overview of the framework\, highlighting a f
ew typical use cases for web apps\, mobile apps and browserless devices.
&#13\;\n&#13\;\nAaron Parecki is a developer advocate at Okta\, and main
 tains oauth.net. He's the co-founder of IndieWebCamp\, a yearly unconfer
ence focusing on data ownership and online identity\, and is the editor
of the W3C Webmention and Micropub specifications.&#13\;\n&#13\;\nAlanna
Risse will show us how she built a working 'bananaphone' with google cl
 oud voice.&#13\;\n&#13\;\nAlanna Risse is a artist\, web developer\, and
full stack mentor at Thinkful. Her piece “Bananaphone” was included in
a group show at PNCA this summer. This interactive piece features a Goog
