DESCRIPTION:Acquiring customers for our SaaS companies is arguably one of
the most difficult challenges we face. We need to figure it out what wo
rks and what doesn't work\, and we need to do it before the money runs o
ut. In this Meetup we'll discuss: • The marketing strategies that are wo
rking for us\, and the ones that didn't. • Lessons we learned taking our
products to market. • Paid vs organic marketing channels: which ones ar
e best for every stage of growth. • How we've identified our most profit
able market segments and how we're providing value to them. • Social med
ia\, search engine marketing\, PR and advertising. Pros and cons of each
channel\, and which ones are right for us. Coffee\, tea and draft beer
will be provided. Come hang out with other SaaS founders and share your

DESCRIPTION:We're all faced with the challenge of creating an awesome sof
tware product for our customers. A big part of this is having a highly f
unctional software development team.   In this Meetup we'll discuss: • W
hen to develop software in-house versus outsourcing or partnering with a
nother software platform. Some SaaS companies utilize a mix of in-house
and outsourced developers. We'll brainstorm various possible approaches.
  • How do you train new developers?  What approaches have been successfu
l and what has been a dismal failure? - Does it make sense to hire senio
r developers only or a mix of junior and senior developers? • Team / pro
ject organization - Do you do daily standups? How do your organize sprin
ts? How are deadlines established and by whom? Is your team in the same
office or are some remote? What tools do you use (Slack\, Trello\, etc.)
? With all of the bugs\, feature requests\, UI overhauls\, when do you s
hip updates to the product? • Communication and transparency - How do yo
u speak to the rest of the team in a language everyone understands? Do y
ou hold weekly/bi-weekly meetings to announce progress? How do you showc
ase new features to clients? Coffee\, tea and draft beer will be provide
 d. Come hang out with other SaaS founders and share your story! If there
's more on this topic you would like to discuss\, send us a message and
we'll try and get it added to the agenda.\n\nTags: meetup:event=24334639

of Q&amp\;A. We'll have plenty of time at the start and end of the meetu
p for tasty beverages and networking. Speakers Impacting Product Develop
ment with Net Promoter Score &amp\; Customer DataCamila Morrison\, Produ
ct Manager As a product manager\, you may have different types of feedba
ck and data from product users/customers. Some of that could be Net Prom
 oter Score (NPS) results\, e-commerce data\, community media verbatims\,
or other survey information. Learn what’s going on with NPS and other c
ustomer data to look at it from a product use perspective. Then see how
to translate that into making changes to your product to better connect
with customers\, improve your value proposition\, and make more revenue.
Camila Morrison is a product manager in tech who has worked across a va
riety of areas in product management from concept/market/UX roles to man
aging a team in the development arena. Also in her experience\, is runni
ng a Net Promoter System to drive improvements across the customer produ
ct lifecycle. She was in marketing management for companies that include
d utility control center software. Her background includes leading marke
 ting research projects for tech\, utility\, transportation\, ad/media\,
 healthcare\, retail\, tourism\, and non-profit industries. --- The Produ
ct Manager Career LifecycleMike Kruse\, Product Manager After spending m
any years as a product manager in both large and small organizations\, M
ike would like to share the application of a tool we use in our day job
to our career. Mike began in software development and fell into the prod
uct manager role – initially informally and then formally. He has worked
in a number of B2B and B2C markets including graphics processors\, netw
orking systems\, digital media\, educational software and currently fint
ech. One item on his bucket list is to master all 37 activities on the P
ragmatic framework or to visit all 50 states in the US. Mike is also one
of the ProductCamp Portland co-founders\, an annual product management
un-conference that began in 2012. It provides him with the opportunity t
o create a new product every year and in doing so\, apply a wide range o
f product management skills that he rarely gets to exercise.\n\nTags: me

Product VisionAmy King\, Software Product Manager at Digimarc Over the
past year\, I learned how designing\, creating\, and sharing wireframes
greatly facilitate communication both for the overall product vision tha
t impacts multiple teams\, and prepping smaller product features for eng
ineers. For product managers that did not have a graphics background lik
e me\, &quot\;design&quot\; is an intimidating skill to tackle\, but one
that is valuable when working with engineers\, designers\, and marketin
 g teams. In this presentation\, I will share:1) How I got started2) A co
uple examples of how I used wireframes to align multiple teams to work t
owards the same product vision3) Recommendations and pros/cons of differ
ent wireframing software to help people get started Amy King is a softwa
re product manager. she likes learning about different industries and ho
w people use technology in their jobs\, then figure out how her team can

rcharging User Engagement by Supporting Autonomy: Practical Motivation S
cience for Product ManagersJahed Momand\, Head of Product Management at
Conversa Health The talk of the town in theories of behavior change in t
echnology center on centuries old behaviorism\, such as BJ Fogg's Behavi
or Model or Nir Eyal's Hook Model. But\, what if you're trying to precip
itate a user behavior that's complex? That happens over long time domain
s? That isn't immediately rewardable? How do you support users in findin
g the motivation to interact with your product\, when push notifications
just won't do the trick? I'll talk about how we applied the science of
 motivation\, Edward Deci's self-determination theory\, to product design
at Conversa Health\, for outsized gains in patient engagement\, retenti
on\, and NPS. Jahed heads up the product team at Conversa Health\, an au
tomated care management chatbot for health systems\, leading them to suc
cessful A and B rounds of funding during his tenure. Before\, he led the
product growth team at Zoomcare\, where he increased revenue and visits
240% over 18 rapid fire months\, leading up to their acquisition by Pea
ce Health. Before that he worked with Dan Ariely of Predictably Irration
al fame on applying behavioral economics to projects within Google\, and
worked in the adtech industry applying behavioral science to ad units (
he's not proud of this work). Way before then\, he played poker professi

DESCRIPTION:We'll have two 20-minute talks\, each followed by 10 minutes

to drive better decision makingAmi Murthy\, Head of Product - Mobile at
eBay Classifieds Group at eBay Product principles can serve as a strong
complement to the product vision and strategy. I will share examples of
our product principles and how we have successfully used them as tools t
o drive better and faster decisions. Ami Murthy is a product leader who
is excellent at building teams that create experiences which millions of
customers LOVE and USE on a daily basis. She has experience leading div
erse\, global teams from product conceptualization to launch\, with a pr
oven track record of building scalable customer-centric products includi
 ng 5-star apps\, a multi-million dollar mobile product\, and market-lead
ing e-book solutions. She is adept at driving business results and has h
elped companies like eBay\, Intel and Amazon grow their bottom line perf
ormance. --- What can theater teach us about software deliveryDavid Van
der Merwe\, Senior Product Manager at Radar I've been thinking about the
similarities between software development and the process of producing
theater for a while. My wife runs a theater company and I'm constantly p
icking her brain about the creative process and theater production as a
project that actually has a deadline (opening night). My hope is to shar
e some learnings about this process and how it may apply to product mana
gers when we need to deliver a full solution to a customer problem by a
committed date. I'm currently a Sr. Product Manager working at RADAR bui
lding privacy incident response management solutions. Like many pm's\, I
grew into a product management role somewhat through circumstance\, som
e curiosity\, and a desire to improve customer experiences. I was born a
nd raised in South Africa and then immigrated to the US where I've worke
d in web marketing\, and e-commerce solutions that served both b2b and b
2c enterprises for the last 20 years. --- Also\, thank you to our host\,

DESCRIPTION:Hard to believe\, but it's been a decade of experimentation a
 round how established organizations — like corporations\, government\, a
nd educational institutions — can better collaborate with the Portland s
tartup community for mutual benefit. That's right. PIE is turning 10 yea
rs old in August 2019. So it seemed like a good time for a party. And ou
r generous sponsors Autodesk (https://autodesk.com/) and SKB (https://sk
bcos.com/) volunteered to help us make it happen. Join PIE\, PIE Shop\,
our alums\, our mentors\, and the entire Portland startup community to c
elebrate this milestone. As part of the celebration\, we'll be happy to
feed you and provide you with a beverage or two. And there will likely b
e some PIE giveaways\, as well. NOTE: This is a family friendly event\,
so feel free to bring the kids.\n\nTags: meetup:event=261024720\, meetup
