DESCRIPTION:## An exploration of the purpose of rules ... ##&#13\;\n&#13\
;\nWe're iconoclasts who reject arbitrary constraints yet long for under
standable\, predictable\, changeable applications. We want code that fol
lows rules yet we refuse to let rules to get in our way. We're deeply at
tached to the little rules that help get things done (No trailing whites
pace! Indent using two spaces!) and despise the big\, complicated ones t
hat impose one-size-fits-all straitjackets on otherwise sane programming
problems.&#13\;\n&#13\;\nThis talk proposes 5 'little' rules for writin
g object-oriented code. These rules are determinedly simple yet produce
code that experts love and novices can be trusted to change\; they fill
the space between anarchy and order with practical\, common sense. The r
ules guide without impeding\, help without hindering and constrain witho
ut binding\, and let you create applications that are easy to change and
fun to work their whole life long.&#13\;\n&#13\;\n*This is the 4th even
t in a series of free monthly FutureTalks from disruptive Developers\, i
nnovative Technologists and world-changing Creatives. Doors open at 5:30
p for food\, drinks and networking. The presentation will begin right at

DESCRIPTION:# DevOps Patterns Distilled: #&#13\;\n## Implementing The Nee
ded Practices In Four Practical Steps ##&#13\;\n&#13\;\nOrganizations em
ploying DevOps practices such as Google\, Amazon\, Facebook\, Etsy and T
witter are routinely deploying code into production hundreds\, or even t
 housands\, of times per day\, while providing world-class availability\,
reliability and security. In contrast\, most organizations struggle to
do releases more than every nine months.&#13\;\n&#13\;\nThe authors of
the upcoming “DevOps Cookbook” have been studying high performing organi
zations since 1999\, and we capture and codify how these high-performing
organizations achieve this fast flow of work through Product Management
and Development\, through QA and Infosec\, and into IT Operations. By
doing so\, other organizations can now replicate the extraordinary cultu
re and outcomes enabling their organization to scale and win in the mark
etplace.&#13\;\n&#13\;\nThe goal of the DevOps Cookbook is to help accel
erate DevOps adoption\, increase the success of DevOps initiatives\, and
lower the activation energy required for DevOps transformations to star
t and finish.&#13\;\n&#13\;\n*This is the 6th event in a series of free

DESCRIPTION:## How Next Glass Combines Science\, Machine Learning\, and A
ugmented Reality to Empower Consumers ##&#13\;\n&#13\;\nNext Glass was f
ounded in 2012 on the premise of using science and software to ensure be
er and wine drinkers never taste another bad beverage. Through patent-pe
nding technology\, Next Glass is cataloging the taste profiles of tens o
f thousands of bottles of beer and wine by chemically extracting the “DN
A” of each using high-res accurate mass spectrometry to develop the worl
d’s only Genome Cellar™. These pure and objective taste profiles (we col
lect tens of thousands of data points from each bottle of beer and wine)
are then coupled with sophisticated machine-learning software and user
preference data to create an incredibly accurate recommendation and disc
overy engine. Next Glass leverages augmented reality functionality to de
liver these highly-accurate wine and beer recommendations to users on th

DESCRIPTION:This month we are all in for a double dose of awesome! Our sp
ecial guest will be Arun Gupta (founding member of the Java EE team at S
un Microsystems and director of developer advocacy at Red Hat in San Fra
ncisco). He will give not one\, but 2 talks:&#13\;\n&#13\;\n# Devoxx4Kid
s: #&#13\;\n## So your kid is interested in programming\, robotics\, eng
ineering? ##&#13\;\n&#13\;\nDevoxx4Kids is a worldwide initiative that i
ntroduces programming\, robotics\, and engineering to kids at an early a
ge. This is achieved by organizing events where children can develop com
puter games\, program robots and also have an introduction to electronic
 s. This effort won Duke’s Choice Awards at JavaOne 2013. This session wi
ll share how Devoxx4Kids is engaging kids at an early age and teaching t
hem computing concepts using Scratch\, Greenfoot\, Minecraft\, Raspberry
Pi\, Arduino\, NAO\, Tynker. The session will show a path that can be f
ollowed by parents to keep their kids engaged and build\, instead of jus
t play games. The attendees will learn best practices to organize simila
r workshops in their local setting. Tips on opening a local US chapter a
nd how to build attendee base will be shared.&#13\;\n&#13\;\n# Continuou
s Integration using Java EE 7 #&#13\;\n&#13\;\nTechniques such as automa
ted testing\, continuous integration and continuous deployment allow sof
tware to be developed to a high standard and easily packaged and deploye
d to test environments\, resulting in the ability to rapidly\, reliably
and repeatedly push out enhancements and bug fixes to customers at low r
isk and with minimal manual overhead. What container-agnostic tools are
available for testing\, continuous integration and deployment of a Java
EE 7 application?&#13\;\n&#13\;\nThis talk will provide a quick overview
of Arquillian and how it helps in testing across multiple containers. S
eparate approaches for greenfield and brownfield applications will be sh
own. Configuring Jenkins for Continuous Integration will be shown. Setti
ng up multiple WildFly containers on OpenShift for testing and productio
n will be shown in detail. At the end of this session\, attendees would
have converted their development environment to leverage the power of Je
nkins\, Arquillian\, and OpenShift to setup an automated Continuous Deli
very pipeline.&#13\;\n&#13\;\n*Doors will open at 5:30\, and the present
ation will begin right at 6p. The food and drinks are provided by Bellag
ios and New Relic.*&#13\;\n&#13\;\n**Please RSVP via Eventbrite [HERE](h
