DESCRIPTION:Last year we threw a “networking event &amp\; holiday party\,
” and somehow it turned into a magical circus of tech folks\, holiday ch
aos\, and one very committed leprechaun.&#13\;\n&#13\;\nPeople walked ou
 t with random treasures — magical beans (yes\, magic)\, a french press\,
makeup fridge\, and whatever else we could liberate from the magical co
 rners of Portland's oldest coworking space\, NedSpace.&#13\;\n&#13\;\nWe
had quests.&#13\;\nWe had games.&#13\;\nWe had conversations that absol
utely should’ve stayed in group chat.&#13\;\n&#13\;\nAnd somehow\, in th
e middle of all that mischief\, 60+ people made friends\, met collaborat
ors\, and found their way into a Portland tech community.&#13\;\n&#13\;\
nThis year we’re bringing the whimsy back — more oddities\, more surpris
es\, more “wait… why is this happening?” moments — all wrapped in holida
y lights and NedSpace energy... This time with a view of Pioneer Square
&amp\; our city Christmas tree. 🌲&#13\;\n&#13\;\nAnd because NedSpace ne
 ver does “normal\,” we’re treating this as a half-potluck\, half-bring-w
 hatever-your-whimsical-heart-desires situation — food\, snacks\, drinks\
, games\, oddities\, or any delightful chaos you feel inspired to share
with the room.&#13\;\n&#13\;\nWhether you’re new to the city or you’ve b
een building here since dial-up\, come celebrate the season with your fe
 llow nerds\, founders\, creatives\, and code-wizards.&#13\;\n&#13\;\nBri
ng your curiosity\, your holiday cheer\, and maybe business cards for th
at side project you keep promising you’ll finish.&#13\;\n&#13\;\nWe’ll h
 andle the quests\, the chaos\, and the questionable gifts.&#13\;\n&#13\;
 \nSee you there\,&#13\;\nMischief Managed 😘&#13\;\n&#13\;\nP.s. Our holi
day events look like this&#13\;\n. (We're in a new space... so let's up
 the ante? 😈)\n\nTags: meetup:event=311996686\n\nImported from: http://ca

throughout an organization is at the core of what product managers do an
d is 100% crucial to the success of a team.&#13\;\n&#13\;\nHowever\, hav
ing effective conversations to drive progress of a product can be challe

al and external stakeholders? How do you identify when your communicatio
ns are failing so you can course-correct? How can you virtually recreate
random hallway conversations when you are no longer working from the sa
me physical space? How do you communicate in a matrixed organization whe

 ch meeting!&#13\;\n&#13\;\nIn December’s short session\, Paul introduced
a set of guidelines for Power BI projects. This deep-dive session will
explore those best practices with several examples and hands-on demonstr
 ations.&#13\;\n&#13\;\nWhether designing moderate-scale reports for a fe
w business users or large-scale solutions with loads of data for an enti
re corporation\, this session provides best practice guidance for the es
sential components of Power BI projects. Power BI is a very flexible pla
tform with an vast range of options and often overwhelming design choice
 s. We will discuss recommended practices to manage datasets and reports
for team collaboration\, version control\, query optimization for scale\
, data modeling design patterns\, measure design\, dataset certification
and governance. We will conclude with a complete checklist of important
items to ensure project success.&#13\;\n&#13\;\nWilliam Aguilar&#13\;\n
 Glad I Pushed Back&#13\;\n&#13\;\nAn anecdotal presentation about Q &amp
\; A including a use-case for the RAND operator in T-SQL. I am an interm
ediate Data Analyst with not quite a full year of professional experienc
 e. After being tasked with a project to compare tables between two serve
rs to check for inconsistencies\, I developed a method for screening lar
ge random samples. My suggestion was turned down for a method developed
by someone with over 20 years of BI experience. I obviously went with th
e advice of my co-worker and followed his format… once or twice. I later
compared the results of his method to that of my Q&amp\;A which had a m
uch more profound impact than my previous explanation.\n\nTags: #PowerBI

DESCRIPTION:What if once a month\, one of us agreed to block a couple of
hours for a series of 10 minute meetings with folks who have been trying
to get on your calendar?&#13\;\n&#13\;\nI know\, crazy right? No wait.
There’s more. What if this block of meetings occurred at a coffee shop o
 r maybe even a bar?&#13\;\n&#13\;\nStill with me? Because here’s where i
t gets wacky.&#13\;\n&#13\;\nWhat if we all showed up at that same place
those meetings were happening? Because we were invited. Not because it
was random or something. And we invited other community members to hang
out there too\, like a happy hour. Then we ask the folks having meetings
to do their homework to make the meeting efficient\, to show up early f
or their meeting time\, and to stay late so they get to meet more people
  — and get connected more quickly. It might even be that in the middle o
f one of our 10 min meetings\, we could just point at someone in the cro
wd and be like “That’s the person you need to talk to\, right there.”&#1
3\;\n&#13\;\nIn my head\, I’ve been calling the “Bottleneck.” Because th
at’s what I am. And that’s what I’m trying to solve for. And I thought i
t might be a solution that could work for you. And our community. And I’
m down to beta test it as the meeting-haver if a few of you are willing
to join me as the happy hour-ers.\n\nTags: startup\, startups\, entrepre

DESCRIPTION:In this weeks code challenge we will be building the classic
game of Hangman. &#13\;\n&#13\;\nBuilding this game will consist of a fe
w parts. &#13\;\n- We will need to select a word for the user to guess
at. &#13\;\n- We will need to take user input(guesses) and determine if
the guess is correct. &#13\;\n- We will need to to have a win/lose condi

DESCRIPTION:A Hack the Dot is a two-hour hackathon where coding school st
 udents\, junior developers\, experienced developers\, marketers\, design
ers and curious web people come together to build ideas around a domain
name. Our events are meant to be a quick and fun way to build a humorous
(and functional) product quickly while meeting people in your tech/star
tup community.&#13\;\n&#13\;\nThere will be pizza. And beer.&#13\;\n&#13
\;\nWhat to Bring / How to Prepare:&#13\;\n• Bring your laptop (fully ch
arged). Bring your charger just in case.&#13\;\n• Install the Atom text
 editor. Go here: https://atom.io/&#13\;\n• Setup a github.com account&#1
3\;\n&#13\;\nHow does it work?&#13\;\nStep 1: Attendees are broken up in
to random teams and assigned spirit animals to guide their efforts.&#13\
;\nStep 2: The teams are provided with the same undisclosed domain name
by Name.com\, arbitrary and often hilarious. &#13\;\nStep 3: Teams have
just two hours to come up with a functioning site inspired by that domai
 n. The team builds the most creative and fun idea for the domain wins.&#

DESCRIPTION:The Untangled web framework is a ClojureScript web framework
that blends various web development libraries together with a good bit o
 f glue code to make single-page webapps a breeze.&#13\;\n&#13\;\nUntangl
ed leverages a lot of things that were pioneered in Om 1.0 by David Nole
n\, and adds it's own layers of simplification and opinion.&#13\;\n&#13\
;\nIt is a full-stack environment\, but you can pick and choose the piec
es you wish to use.&#13\;\n&#13\;\nWe'll discuss the basic idea of the b
its you need to develop an Om.Next app and cover how Untangled provides
a lot of that for you.&#13\;\n&#13\;\nYou may want to checkout this over
view\, companion video as well as the Om.Next quick start and the Unta
ngled tutorial.&#13\;\n&#13\;\n&#13\;\nBio: Tony Kay works at NAVIS in B
end. He's been doing software development since the mid-80s in most of t
 he common suspects: C\, C++\, Java\, Scala\, Clojure\, Javascript. Tony
is currently the technical lead on new software development\, where he's
driven the adoption of Clojure/Clojurescript and worked as the lead on
the Untangled Web Framework project\, which they use to develop our prod
uction software. His interests include fermenting random things for glut
 en-free sourdough bread\, cooking\, making software engineering better a
 s a profession\, and barefoot hiking. \n\nTags: clojure\, ClojureScript\
