DESCRIPTION:The monthly meeting of Portland's first JavaScript and ECMAsc
ript users' group. We host presentations and discussions on everything J
 avaScript-related - including JavaScript frameworks\, node.js\, CoffeeSc
ript\, and whatever else comes up.&#13\;\n&#13\;\nTHIS IS NOT OUR USUAL
LOCATION! This month only\, the meeting will be at Elemental Technologi
es.&#13\;\n&#13\;\nWe have three presentations on the agenda this month:
&#13\;\n&#13\;\n## JavaScript\, Hardware and the Internet of Things\, pr
esented by Gerald Aden&#13\;\n&#13\;\nInternet of Things has become a hu
ge opportunity for software\, hardware and designers alike to create sol
utions for both consumers and businesses. We'll explore how to get star
ted using JavaScript/Node.js\, a Raspberry PI and the Cloud to easily ge
t started developing for this exciting space.&#13\;\n&#13\;\n## RactiveJ
 S\, presented by Marty Nelson&#13\;\n&#13\;\nRactive.js is a template-dr
iven UI library. Unlike other tools that generate inert HTML\, it transf
orms your templates into blueprints for apps that are interactive by def
ault. Ractive was originally created at theguardian.com by Rich Harris t
o produce news applications. These apps are heavily interactive\, combin
e HTML and SVG\, and are developed under extreme deadline pressure. It h
as to work reliably across browsers\, and perform well even on mobile de
 vices.&#13\;\n&#13\;\nRactive is a library\, not a framework. Where some
tools force you to learn a new vocabulary and structure your app in a p
articular way\, Ractive works for you\, not the other way around – and i
t plays well with other libraries. In this talk\, we'll go over the main
features of Ractive.js\, and also show possible integrations that highl
ight the varied approaches to working with Ractive.&#13\;\n&#13\;\nMarty
Nelson is a contributor to the Ractive open-source project. A 15 year v
eteran (survivor?) of enterprise software development he has been a deve
loper\, manager and lead architect. The last few years he has been focus
ed on javascript\, both in node and the browser\, and web and mobile app
development with HTML5.&#13\;\n&#13\;\n## Mystery bonus presentation&#1
3\;\n&#13\;\nWe may or may not be able to get to the final presentation.
So for now it will remain a mysterious secret!&#13\;\n&#13\;\nFeel fre
e to join our mailing list at http://groups.google.com/group/pdxjs if yo
u too are a JavaScript admirer. Or visit our web site for more informati
on at http://pdxjs.com/.&#13\;\n&#13\;\nIf you're interested in making a
presentation at this or at a future meet-up\, please e-mail Luc Perkins
(luc@janrain.com) and Jesse Hallett (jesse@sitr.us).\n\nTags: programmi
