DESCRIPTION:The Innovation Academy is bringing together students\, teache
rs\, and working professionals from the Northwest’s technology industri
es to empower students with new skills sets of the digital age.&#13\;\n&
#13\;\nTeams will work collaboratively to build software applications an
d other technology-‐based solutions that solve real world problems that
exist within our community. The solutions that will emerge from these t
eams will be known as &quot\;Innovation for the Common Good.&quot\;&#13\
;\n&#13\;\nThe region’s first &quot\;Innovation Academy will be launchin
g at Franklin High School Saturday\, May 18 from 2-‐5pm. The launch wil
l offer students the opportunity to form project teams that will meet ov
er the summer to work on their projects with industry mentors. New solut
ions in areas such as education\, the environment\, energy and public sa
fety will be explored.&#13\;\n&#13\;\nAttendees at the launch event will
preview a new community safety mobile app that is being developed by a
team of Franklin and Wilson students working with industry experts and t
he Portland Police Bureau. Designed to improve communication and collabo
ration between district police officers and the neighborhoods that they
serve\, the new mobile app is an example of the kind of impact student-
‐based innovation can bring to Oregon.&#13\;\n&#13\;\nAll students\, tea
