DESCRIPTION:This event runs from Wednesday\, September 8\, 2010 at 7:30am
  through Friday\, September 10\, 2010 at 4pm.\n\n Description:\nCo-spons
ored by: IEEE Region 6 and Oregon Section\n\nSmart Grid Week September 8
-10\, 2010 A set of three 1-day events about the Smart Grid organized by
the Oregon Section. The Smart Grid marries the electrical grid\, an extr
emely complex system based on mature\, conservative technology\, with tw
o fast moving innovative technologies\, computers and communications. It
is one of the greatest electrical\, electronic and information processi
ng challenges of our time and represents a significant engineering oppor
tunity over the next two decades and beyond. It captures information abo
ut supply\, system demand\, individual usage\, and pricing that fundamen
tally shifts how electricity is used. It enables the operators of the po
wer system to increase efficiency and reliability while reducing costs a
nd empowering consumers of electricity to minimize their own electricity
costs. The Workshop - Sept. 8. Sponsored by Region 6 and the Oregon Sec
tion. It will cover the Smart Grid as a system. “Smart grid” means m
any things to different audiences\, we have brought together a distingui
shed set of thought leaders and subject matter experts who will present
the architecture\, operation and implementation of the Smart Grid\, with
a focus on the technologies and enabling standards that will make it wo
rk. It will be webcast to all of Region 6. See http://meetings.vtools.ie
ee.org/meeting_view/list_meeting/2801 for full details and registration.
The Tutorials - Sept. 9 and 10. IEEE Oregon has partnered with TADA Trai
ning for two Smart Grid tutorials on wireless technologies for Smart Gri
d and Smart Grid metering. These workshops are targeted for the embedded
systems engineer (hardware and/or software) and managers at the Interme
diate / Advanced level. Prerequisites: knowledge of embedded systems con
cepts and development\, including rudimentary C language coding. Each ru
ns from 9:00 AM - 4:00 PM (Pacific Time)\, at ITT Technical Institute\,
on Cascades Parkway in Portland. Special Smart Grid Week IEEE member rat
e: $249.00. For full details and registration\, go to http://www.tadatr
 aining.com/smartgrid. \n\n\nLocation: \nPortland\, Ambridge Event Cente
