DESCRIPTION:Bringing cost effective energy to the Billions living in prim
itive conditions \n\nOver 1.6 billion people\, upwards of 30% of the glo
bal population\, are without access to electricity. Electricity advances
developmental factors such as small business development\, extended wor
king hours\, access to communications\, enhanced education levels and ru
ral development. Energy can improve life of millions. \n\n\nIn developin
g countries access to energy remains constrained by factors such as limi
ted access to well adapted affordable technology\, fragmented small mark
ets\, prohibitive taxes and limited financial resources. On Dec 14th \,
at the Copenhagen Climate conference the Obama Administration announced
a $350 million dollar initiative dubbed “Climate REDI” to promote c
lean energy technologies in developing countries. \n\n\nJoin us on Mar
ch 17th for a discussion with our expert panel\, on what kind of innovat
ions in products\, finance\, supply and service can ensure reliable &amp
\; affordable energy to the billions of poor across the world. \n\n\nO
 ur 2 presenters Michael(Kipp) Baratoff\, Principal\, Equilibrium Capital
   &amp\; Patrick Maloney\, Program Director\, Lemelson Foundation have b
een fully immersed in this space\, having been engaged with social entre
preneurs over the course of their careers. Lemelson Foundation awarded a
n energy grant to Selco India for it’s Incubation Center and Innovatio
n Department to develop new products and new business models to solve ke
y problems for energy consumers. The SELCO Solar Light Private Limited (
SELCO India) is already an important provider of solar systems and cook
stoves in southern India\, with products that allow rural families to in
crease their household income while reducing the environmental and healt
h risks of higher-cost kerosene lamps and inefficient stoves. \n\nOur ev
ent organizer\, TiE Oregon Clean Energy SIG chair\, Ravi Sinha\, is the
Chairman of Choice Solar India Pvt Ltd.\, company engaged in creative d
istribution of energy solutions to India's marginalized residents. \n\n
Bill Campbell\, our moderator for the evening is also a Principal at Equ
librium as well as a TiE Oregon Charter Member and Board Member. \n\
 nThey will bring an insight into problems\, economics\, delivery &amp\;
growth of energy solutions. \n\n This event is also a continuation of ou
r theme “Serving the 6 Billion” on which we launched TiE Oregon in 2
 007. The keynote (watch the video on our website) speaker at the launch
was C.K Prahalad\, Paul &amp\; Ruth McCracken Distinguished University P
rofessor of Corporate Strategy at the University of Michigan Ross School
of Business\, a globally recognized business consultant\, who gave a st
irring speech about the Fortune at the Bottom of the Pyramid.\n\n\nIt ce
nters on the proposition that the world's poor can be the engine of the
next round of global trade and prosperity and can be a source of innovat
 ion. \n\nTags: energy\, solutions\, social\, cost\, africa\, india\, sus
