 e mid-1990s\, voice-over-IP products and services have mainly attempted 
 to mimic the &quot\;black phone&quot\; of decades past\, providing cheap
 er basic phone service.  However\, VoIP has the potential to significant
 ly improve real-time communications if it is combined with presence\, co
 ntext-aware and location-based services.  Peer-to-peer networks can allo
 w building highly-scalable\, self-configuring systems.  This talk will g
 ive a broad overview of VoIP\, including its IMS variant\, and some of t
 he advanced services that are now in development\, standardization or st
 arting to appear as products.&#13\;\n&#13\;\nBio&#13\;\nProf. Schulzrinn
 e co-developed protocols such as RTP\, RTSP and SIP\, are now Internet s
 tandards\, used by almost all Internet telephony and multimedia applicat
 ions.  His research interests include Internet multimedia systems\, ubiq
 uitous computing\, mobile systems\, quality of service\, and performance
