SUMMARY:Perl: Scientific Computing with Math::GSL
CREATED:20080904T010151
LAST-MODIFIED:20080904T010151
DESCRIPTION:Wed. September 10th\, 6:53pm at FreeGeek -- 1731 SE 10th Ave.\n
 \n Speaker: Jonathan Leto \n Topic: Scientific Computing with Math::GSL \
 n\nThis talk will be an introduction to doing scientific computing with \nP
 erl and Math::GSL. This module provides access to functions from the \nGNU
  Scientific Library via Perl code.\n\nWhy would you want to do that? Using
  the Perl interpreter's easy and \nfast I/O\, string processing\, and manag
 ed memory reduces programming \ntime while GSL's optimized numerical librar
 y (compiled C) gives you \naccess to a variety of mathematical routines to
 do the heavy lifting.\n\n  http://www.gnu.org/software/gsl/\n  http://searc
 h.cpan.org/dist/Math-GSL/\n\nYou do not need to know Perl or bring a lab co
 at. You should bring your \nscientist friends (steal their lab coat?) and
 it helps if you know how \nto program in some language (FORTRAN anyone?)\,
 or something about math.\n\n\nAs always\, social hour at the Lucky Lab afte
 r the meeting.\n\nTags:\npdxpm\, perl
